I have been meditating for three years, still into it.
You can meditate in many different ways. In Hindu thought, the body itself is a circuit of divine energies, and to manifest this practice one can perform "mudras" and "mantras"; to balance and concentrate on certain energies. These energies are called Chakras. Note, this is one way to look at it.
Meditation itself is difficult to describe; what it helps achieve, for there are so many ways to do so and many things to gain and lose. According to Tibetan Yogis, it is to dissolve the ego in awareness. Meaning basically that self awareness helps get rid of impulsivity and be more aware in autopilot.
Despite there being many forms of meditation, there is one "Supreme" way, which is to be aware of your awareness and discard all thoughts, be one with unapprehending and undividing awareness. Excuse the English, it's a bit rusty
What are the benefits? Do you guys actually find that it helps you to alleviate anxiety or reach a decision?

It dissolves any bad thought and in the end it may make your will stronger as well
