This isn't really a paranormal topic, it's Just men that had a lack of empathy development during childhood and puberty. He killed literally just because he knew he could, and it would get him media attention. Most Sociopaths feel like their disorder makes them better than most people, because they don't have a conscience stopping them from doing anything considered morally wrong, thus they can achieve what most people can't, which is murder without provocation. The Zodiac got away with it because they didn't have his prints in the police database (nor do I believe they got any at the crime scenes in the first place), and there was nothing tying him to the murders other than the acts themselves. There was no way to catch him other than eyewitnesses, or him fucking up somehow.

Hard to say that because of the way he killed. He basically shot random strangers and there were subtle changes in his MO (as far as we know of for the crimes associated with him). I get the whole moral compass thing and how serial killers have a lack of empathy which makes them feel above others and subsequently feel like they'll receive no consequences for what they're doing and all, but why exactly does that fascinate us?
