Secondly there are lenses in your iPhone camera, the newer models with mechanical zoom have even more lenses in order to facilitate the zoom feature. Thirdly, there is a thing called index of refraction, you won't get the light anomaly seen in the first post by taking a picture of the sun directly, the sun is not center frame, that's why refraction occurs and you get the reflected image of the sun.

Chemicals released from the height required for contrails to form would result in them being dispersed to the point where they wouldn't be effictive or degrading before touching ground.
