So I just got this creepy ass letter and box that I can't open in the mail.
Here is a picture of the letter and box side by side.
I can't make out a couple of the words in the letter so hopefully someone who's good at reading handwriting can help out.

I've transcribed most of the letter here:
An asterisk marks a work I'm not sure is correct
Dear [my name]
I do not know you but the storm* tells me that you must know - that you must be warned
I do as I'm told. I was given your name. It took me a long time to find you. Why duty* is home* and I can turn aside the memories of that terrible woman. I am relinquishing myself of this great burden and for that alone I must thank you. I do not envy you having to pick it up.
I have looked into the darkness of this poor boy and brought the lightning and the flame. It is all I could do and I hope it is enough.
Fate has its reasons for you to hear this story. Perhaps this story needs to stay alive. Perhaps it is just the wind.
Do with this tale as you will. It is an end from me.

Oh, so this is some kind of ARG. Well that removes most of the creep factor, seeing someone else got the exact same box and letter. I don't know who would send me this though. Still gonna continue updating this thread with pics and I think I can get this box open soon

Opened the box - smells old and musty
Inside is an amulet with some cool symbols all over it, and a journal. The newspaper is dated 1980.
The book is some kids diary, Ethan Murphy. All of the pages are filled so it looks like it's gonna be a long read
