To sum it up nice and simply:

This exercises used a lengenthening of the spine through extended posture in conjunction with powerful breathing (breath of fire) to generate the energy of the body (chi, kundalini, etc.) and raise it through your chakras.
It wont happen immediately, but if you have done your homework and prepared your body and mind through the prerequired exercise, meditation, and diet, you should begin to feel your third eye opening.
You will literally feel it, in the middle of your head. A slight pressure in your brow that doesnt hurt but feels almost pleasurable. It kinda feels like a light beaming out of your head.

I can understand you being reluctant to try drugs, but for me, LSD really did do the trick. I found that after several very beautiful (albeit exhausting) trips, I realized that I could see around the inside of my own brain, and learned to press on my third eye. The trick is to maintain what Buddhists call "mindfulness" all throughout the trip. Mindfulness basically just means remaining as aware as possible of all your own thoughts while you have them, as if you are an outside observer to your own mind. Try to see if you can follow your thoughts within your own brain. If you can do that, you should be able to find your third eye; it's right at the center of your brain, where the pineal gland is located.
