I've also had this book for as long as I can remember. I read it a lot as a kid. It's divided into sections about monsters, paranormal phenomena, disappearances, and the like. It's from Readers Digest. No idea where I got it.

Chupacabra

I'm not sure if it was either Bigfoot or Chupacabra
>>
Chupacabras

I remember hearing about it all over the tv. It was 1994 or 95 I'm not sure but I remember coming home from dinner with family (I was a little kid) and found a piece of meat outside of my house, my uncle said it was a "chupacabras snack" and I was terrified thinking one of those things was stalking my home. I live in Mexico btw.
>>
>>17501387
Loch Ness monster for me. Sparked an interest like nothing else and I learned about all kinds of creatures/monsters back when I was just a little tyke. I remember they didn't even used to have the name "cryptid"
>>
Bigfoot
>>
For me, it was Sasquatch. My dad gave me a book with pictures and details about Sasquatch and I've always been fascinated by it. Every once in a while I go on BFRO to read some spine-chilling stories about Sasquatch. We even went so far as to go searching for Sasquatch a couple of times in state parks.

This.
I got a book when I was younger that was called "Things that Suck" and had a little on the Chupacabra.
Scared the shit out of me because it listed sightings and some were in FL.

>>17501387
Then I saw the Mothman Prophecies.
>>
I don't remember which one was exactly first but it could've been bigfoot, lochness monster or grey aliens.

aside from that, i do remember getting told stories about the bell witch. not a creature per se but i remember hearing that lots of creatures roamed that area. like weird giant mutated cat dogs. pic related, the bell manor

another early memory was of spearfinger, probably one of the best as far as setting and whoever told it. was camping innawoods and scared shitless all night.

>Wherever she stands, the ground below her freezes and plants and grass die. She leaves a trace of ice and snow when she walks the ground. Anything that she touches will freeze. On one occasion, she froze a campfire by sitting down on it. She seeks friendship and warmth, but she is declined by everyone and everything, leaving her in her cold cavern on top of the Lonely Mountains.

That's not haunting, that's depressing desu

Lagarflóts Ormurinn AKA: The Wyrm of Lagarflót River. It's Icelandic folklore I grew up with. We have plenty of beasts in our folklore, but this one I think counts as a cryptid because sightings continue to this day.

I was like 6 so it had to be around the year 1999 when some redneck relatives first told a story around the campfire of demons in the woods with goat heads called the goat man. It never made sense to me that they acted like they were a species but somehow also a singular entity like the devil. It made no sense. Wouldn't hear the term goat man again until it trended on here recently, and I feel like it was a big part of a lot of kids childhoods and we just forgot about it then loved it out of nostalgia when the stories suddenly cropped up again.

Still got that book. Love the story about the Green Children, the one about the guy who got little pancakes from some aliens, the cattle mutilations, the still-living pterodactyl that some miners found in a cave in England, the 200-ton steel wrecking ball that just disappeared off its cable, the story of Judge Crater, etc. Really spoopy stuff in there. Still take it off the shelf to go through it from time to time.
>>
>>17512921
Love this book, too.
>>
I remember checking out a book from the library once.
It was titled Aliens or something, I remember the text being green and kinda cyber-y.
There was a dark purple alien on the front cover.
It was a collection of short stories, and one of them featured a girl who was abducted by aliens and then put into a zoo for aliens. She was fed peaches if I remember correctly.

It was one of my first boners, and probably explains a lot.

There was also a more sinister story that had to do with an boy finding human skin shavings and then found his dad's skin carcass in his shed. A type of, body-snatcher story if you will.
