There was a flicker of truth to that though.
One of the things I remember was that there was an old conspiracy nut (/x/ incarnate) who stood on the street.
He said something like "The problem is that it's not difficult to be like me. All you have to do is some basic research and you'll come up with all the same things I have. The problem is that you don't WANT to be like me.".
I thought it had a ring of truth to it.
