>We hypothesize that the shonisaurs were killed and carried to the site by an enormous Triassic cephalopod, a "kraken," with estimated length of approximately 30 m, twice that of the modern Colossal Squid Mesonychoteuthis. In this scenario, shonisaurs were ambushed by a Triassic kraken, drowned, and dumped on a midden like that of a modern octopus.

>The proposed Triassic kraken, which could have been the most intelligent invertebrate ever, arranged the vertebral discs in biserial patterns. The arranged vertebrae resemble the pattern of sucker discs on a cephalopod tentacle; thus the tessellated vertebral disc pavement may represent the earliest known self‑portrait.

It would eat other enourmous undiscovered creatures and linger near the bottom of the sea getting energy from the radiation emanating from the crust, thousands upon thousands of feet beneath the sea.

Those giant beasts would in turn eat other large undiscovered creatures, this chain goes on until we get a beast that eats whales, and other smaller normal creatures.

Ta da, food chain.

I remember last summer I worked at this out door recreation program for little kids
and there were these two girls about 3 or 4 years younger than me, who were kinda like unofficial employees, we were at the playground and I told them about the Area 51 caller and it freaked them out.
That was a good day.

Bathophobia--a fear of depth, seems to be a pretty reasonable fear, compared to many other phobiæ.

Like most people here, I like to investigate the spoopy and find myself on YouTube hunting for Titanic/sunken vessel documentaries as well as nature documentaries on the abyssal plain and other deep adventures.
Planet Earth had a decent deep water sequence but I prefer The Blue Planet's footage:

Yeh same, great swimmer and love being in the sea but i don't like when i can't see the bottom. I remember swimming in Spain and going to the edge of the "safe" area that has buoy markers to tell you to turn back. I dunked my head underwater and seen where the nice blue water and gold sand just abruptly drops off in to a fucking black abyss of fuck knows what.

I don't know what has had me fantasizing about this as of lately.

But it is crazy to think about what could be hiding in a pocket of the ocean depth that hasn't been disturbed for hundreds or thousands of year.

>there's a hole in the bottom of the see.
>there's smoking coming from the hole in the bottom of the sea
>there micro organisms feeding on the smoke, coming from a hole in the bottom of the sea

>>
>>17420205
depends on how big the meteor is, I wont pretend to know the science behind it, but I saw a Horizon documentary where they simulated a huge meteor impact against the Earth's surface. The resulting explosion and the gasses released fucked with the ozone layer, it was imposible for sunlight to break through and all the oceans dried up. It was pretty much end game.

Look up the last dive of David Shaw
Dude found the body of a diver that'd been in a submerged cave system for years (10? can't remember, also think he knew the bloke before he died in that cave but not sure) and decided to recover the body. During the process of doing that, things went wrong and he died down there, they found his and the other guy's bodies later. There's some footage from the camera he had on him floating around the internet
