Why would you listen to the MW and HF bands for alien signals rather than 1.1 Ghz and the hydrogen line?
HF is kind of my bread and butter, I rather like listening in on different over the horizon radars you can hear along with the psk31 of various ham radio users.

Go to upper side band. That's a Ham radio user who is on upper side band and thus working a little more power at the same efficiency as Full band band.
