New fag here, I'm trying to write a fantasy novel and add some really dark ancient deities into it. I've been trying to find some religions to take some inspiration from, but about the only thing I've found so far is few pagan gods that somewhat do the trick, but not much else. Any good places to start?

A second look will reveal that the myths are darker than their first appearance.

Pic-related is the Filipino Tigbelang. Foreign monsters and cryptids should make good filler.

Lilith, the bloody dragon goddess of all creation and destruction. While from her births all things, by her wicked venom does all things likewise perish. By her womb, we enter the anti-realm of the void. By her seductive and destructive hymns are we brought unto full embrace with the chthonic and black powers of the pan-chaos.

Nyarlathotep, the Dark God of a thousand forms who is The Messenger and Soul of the Old Ones. Bearing the collective souls of the old ones, having a foot in each world, he is the dark guide for the sorcerer who wishes to walk the worlds of the ancient ones.

No, you're not writing a novel
I'd be surprised if you managed to actually write a retarded creepypasta

Who the fuck are you to tell him what he is or isn't writing?

That's the same anon that tries to get into every thread as the first replier to push all content off this board. Their method involves ossification of discussion, so OC is antithetical to their means.

Kaval Deivam of South India

Try Chernebog, the Slavic god of pretty much everything evil and nasty. Or Baba Yaga. She's pretty damn creepy.

The Morrigan.

Not necessarily deities, but the Erlking has always seemed very very creepy to me, mostly because of the pedophilic undertones to the story. Also Santa Compaña.

You could use Popobawa. He's a shapeshifting bat demon from Zanzibar who sodomises men who don't believe in him every night until spread his legend and convince others that he exists.

I don't know how this may help you, but look up Naglfar (not the band). its like a ship made of finger nails that took people somewhere in the after life or something. I obviously dont know a lot about it.

My parents used to scare me that if I go to swim alone Näkki will take me away. So I guess it is scary? Other than that I cant remember any other pagan deities that could be scary. Most of them are quite nice.

Can't go wrong with the biblical Moloch

Or if you're a fantasy writer, make something up?

Always make up your own with this kind of thing. If a reader can look up your spoopy deity on wikipedia, they won't find it as scary unless it's fairly obscure.

Conjuring up your own dark deities or deity-like entities is better to instill a sense or horror. Think of Cthulhu.

Using mythology to inspire fictional entities like this are best done with demons and monsters, but they don't bring the same sense of horror as an all-powerful god.
