So let's say that the internet hypothetically "ends" - where just everyone stops using it for 100 years.

200 years later, people from newer societies discover the internet - and everything in it.

This isn't just finding one server, let's just say every server and networking thing was buried, but is fully capable of working when dug up.

What do you think this new community/civilization would think? Would they be "wowed" at the massive amounts of content, or would they think that we're stupid?
>>
I think, at first, they'd be distracted by the cat videos.
>>
They'd think we were faggots
>>
I hope my posts on /x/ are enshrined as a spiritual revolutionary of the 21st century.
>>
It's too hard for me to imagine fully, since internet access is so deeply ingrained into so much of what we do.

But I'd imagine it'd be like Modern humans finding the library of Alexandria, but instead of new information it's just quirks and cute things

that guy on the pedoboard?
>>
probably be similar to picking up an old diary or something
they wouldnt think we were stupid just old and lame
>>
>Mostly porn

They would say that our civilisation crumbled because of our degeneracy
>>
I think they'd be amazed. Why wouldn't they be? Wouldn't you be impressed if you found out that people in 1916 were forging real Pepes and beating it to pictures of flapper girls showing their calves?
>>
>>17258248
They would probably burn it all to the ground and forget that such a thing ever happened to humanity.

His fingers traced through the dust on the monitor as it flickered back to life.
The crowd of scientists behind him watched with palpable tension.
He turned around with his robot waist, the servos buzzed and hissed.
He took a bite of his cigarette and sighed.
"I knew it. We all knew it. 300 years later. OP was a faggot."
"Shut it down" The sciencetists said.

that isn't what they say about the Roman Empire

let's imagine they also have the technology to resurrect anyone of this time somehow, and they use your internet record to assess whether to include you in their society.

Browsing on incognito tabs. Good luck.

If future civilization saw our images and read our stories, would they assume that everything was absolutely true?

Like you'd see this shit and think "wow, civilizations for the late 1900's must have been in contact with jazz playing aliens"
>>
>>17260974

No, Rome was doomed when it converted to Christianity.

Protip: incognito mode is a honey trap

fishing through the vast quantities of shit people browse for juicy information is pretty difficult, so we discovered that things like incognito mode and duckduck go would make you do all the work for us
>>

their equivalent of /x/ might, in the same way you have youtube videos about "Yahweh was really the alien in charge of the middle-east when they were mining Earth" etc.

*they'd realize we're faggots

I think discovering the internet would be much more important than people make it out to be. The internet has its own separate cultures (4chan culture is much different than Facebook, which is different than Reddit, etc.) and communities. The internet is its own entity man, think about how different it was when it first started, or how different even 4chan was ten years ago - internet culture as a whole has progressed, for better or worse, into something entirely different than what it was. That in itself I think is worth study - that would be more from an anthropological perspective though and less historical. It's even cool to see how technological limitations caused different cultures on the internet to occur. I think it'd be really interesting to read about/study.

As far as history goes the internet has pretty much everything that you'd need and you could discover exact times certain events happened, which is amazing.

they would think of pepe as an ancient god-like creature, that was praised py a society, build around the internet... and after a while they would become filled with fear over this being, that seems to apear on various sides in the ancient world under the surname "4chan" a new religion would form with pepe as the bringer of the end times!!!!

The internet can't just "end". It is programmed in with the human unconscious and the Earths very own frequency. To destroy the internet would be to destroy Earth and all life.

If they happened to also find a bunch of stuff like interviews of George Lucas confirming it was entirely fictional, I think they wouldn't be confused.
>>
>>17261924
So be it.
>>
without anyone doing maintenance, the internet would get buttfucked by chinese botnets and expiring domain names and shit

think of all the spam
>>

>think of all the spam
So it sounds like there isn't any real maintenance.

look up BBS the documentary its on youtube.

When does George Lucas explicitly say "Star Wars is fictional"?
>>
>>17264097
It's just an example.

But I'm pretty sure the movie itself does end with that "The events portrayed in this film are entirely fictional. Any person or persons resembling yadda yadda entirely coincidental etc" message at the end of every film. So right there, for a start.
