Any music other than Gospel was seen as the devils music. Him playing blues/jazz whatever, was, to his generation, him playing the devils music.
Him selling his soul to the devil literally meant he loved his funky music and probably told the church to FO. Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis etc were banned from some radio/tv stations because... Devils music.
