Believe it or not, I actually went to an assessment and selection course for a "special missions unit", which is basically spy shit. I got selected, however I wasn't able to attend my follow on training until a year later. My dad ended up getting murdered before i was supposed to go and it fucked me up, started drinking heavily, quit working out, etc. Ended up getting my name removed from the list because I was not in the mental or physical shape to attend a year long high intensity school.

Many spies do covert ops with very little physical training as their work is mostly about developing contacts and obtaining information. If they have to fight then they failed a crucial part of their job. All of them know how to kill, break into places, interrogate people, etc., but many are just paper pushers who meet people and bribe them for information.
