More like altered states of reality. Imo Hinduism is a religion about real hallucinatory states of being that alter reality. Important part is shiva/shakti as a play of energy. If you raise your consciousness to start pulling matter back into the spiritual state you can evolve in certain ways and experience god through the forms of the deities. That image is really an avatar state of a hologram. One perceiver seeing a multitude of the forms of god as the ascended sages.
