not trying to be a white knight OP but you shouldn't take shit from houses you check out. if he feels like it he can come after you for theft and breaking and entering and whatever else he can make stick (i had this happen to my friend years ago). just because the house is abandoned doesn't mean that someone doesn't own the land, some places can still get you in a lot of trouble legally. hopefully not the case for your sake but still figured I would mention it.

Most people don't bother to take you too court for shenanigans involving an abandoned house especially if they own it. No one wants to pay taxes on it.

true. i personally use the urban exploration rules which are: photograph or video the place, don't break anything, don't take anything. seems like the right thing to do, nothing sucks worse than going into an awesome abandoned place and it's all fucked up from whoever went there before. it's kinda cool to see a place with its original shit there and without graffiti etc.
