I'll start with pic related.

> New spin on the found footage genre.
> Based on a real urban legend.
> Also based on real life stories of cyber bullying.
> Features one of the best jump scares in the history of horror.
> Managed to capture the vibe of 1990s horror (normie teenagers getting mercilessly killed one by one).

Who else /unfriended/ here
>>
>>17108260
Good bait
>>
Not trolling but I actually liked Unfriended. The attention to detail was good and the ghost was justified in its revenge in the end which made the story decent. The emotions were realistic and the acting was okay.

It was a bit pretentious at first but I thought it got better once it kicked off. Saw it twice. The only funny part was imagining the ghost sitting there typing all that shit.

Hoping for a sequel.
>>

I usually see shit like this on /v/ but first time ive seen something like this on /x/

The deaths were really creative too and it has a really good jump scare at the end.

Everytime old school /x/ would make a list of bri/x/worthy movies, Noroi and [REC] would make the top five.

The last five minutes of [REC] is the only thing every put on celluloid to physically frighten me in my adult life.
>>
>>17108260
Nightmare on elm street. Best part is in the end when you find out the true story of freddy and why he did what he did.
>>
>>17108474
Nah the jump scare was coming a mile away. Also thought it was funny how its clearly a guy closing the laptop in a plain shirt and then "Laura" comes outta nowhere.

But yeah. Good death scenes. The fat dude blender was gnarly.
>>
>>17108260
thing was a bag o' tolies ya wee fag.
>>
>>17108438
I like that Laura wasn't this super innocent victim, that would have been a really cheap, easy route to do. She was popular and a bitch and wasn't really that missed by her peers.

I can't believe that it managed to make a game of 'never have I ever' full of tension and suspense.

>>
>>17108557
>I can't believe that it managed to make a game of 'never have I ever' full of tension and suspense.

That was one of my favorite parts. To see them all turn on each other before getting offed.

I went in expecting to hate it but it was a pretty well done, original horror film. And entertaining.
>>
>>17108728
Clearly not one take.

Yeah I had like no hope for it at all.

I love how the really loud kid with the gun just threw them all to the wolves, like goddamn he didn't give a shit about what happened to them.

This post reeks of advertisement.

How can you put a new spin on something that's already been done to death
>features one of the best jump scares in the history of horror
That's a pretty bold claim right there.
>manages to capture the vibe of 1990's horror
That shit is a straight up lie. More like it captures the vibe of a 2007 horror movie that everyone's been trying to copy ever since its release. Its sort of like when saw came out and every motherfucker was making torture porn movies.
0/10 go advertise somewhere else
>>
>>17108821
Well that right there was another thing I liked about it.

Laura wasn't so innocent she didn't deserve to be humiliated, Blaire turned out to not be the one genuine sweetheart among them, none of them were good but no one deserved to die either. And yeah, I didn't have any problem with that kid throwing them to the wolves because in that situation you figure none of these people, friend or no, are worth my life, and I liked that.

For a genre where characters are typically very cliche I like that this movie made the characters grey instead of black or white.

I'm always up for shitty teens dying horrifically.

It wasn't something I'd rave about but I did like it. It had elements that felt classic, too, which was cool. Plus, the way it was executed was really neato.

And I dug how everyone involved sacked because everyone does actually suck.

It wasn't filmed in one take. Each actor would run through the script all the way through one after another and the best bits were kept. It's an ingenious way to film a movie considering you have complete control over the quality of the scenes.

What a waste it wasn't very good.

Unfriended did wrong what Krampus did absolutely correctly:

Killing off characters you could care less about.

When they are built up and seem more than just one dimensional, it's that much more powerful when they bite the dust.

Watch that film alone in the dark on a macbook for true immersion.

It was decent in the cinema, and I was actually surprised that what I thought would just be a gimmick actually worked.
But watching it on a macbook (the screen you see is a mac) makes it feel like you are actually part of the film
>>
>>17108841
>How can you put a new spin on something that's already been done to death

You can do it on any computer really, but because the screen you are seeing is a mac screen it takes away some of the immersion.

I did that, movie is still dumb shit only facebook neet generation seems to like.
>>
Unfriended was really subpar, but damn if I didn't like the style of it. The jumpscares were really predictable like at the end of The Strangers and the way they contorted themselves in pain was really poor, you can tell they were more concerned with learning their lines instead of learning how a body reacts to things. One of my biggest disappointments was that no one was forced to lose a finger for lying during Never Have I Ever.

Here are some good found footage/mockumentary spooks:
>Lake Mungo
>Noroi
>Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County
>>

>>17112021
>i hope they will make a sequel
I hope not. The film only really works once.

The style is gimmicky, but enjoyable as something fresh. You watch it again and it loses some of its appeal.

>>
>>17109012
Grave Encounters to be honest family. It's one of the more decent found-footage movies out ther, and not every fucking person on the planet knows about it so they dont finger themselves to it like paranormal activity. 8/10 movie
>>
>>17108260
Worst film ever seen. Seriously, it is like a working day. Video conferences, google search and facebook messages. And the nerdiest villain ever seen.

Yeah I watched it on a MacBook. I use Skype a lot too, so a lot of the time I wasn't sure if the Skype calls were from the movie or from my skype--I'd often click the screen to try to exit skype lol.

Underrated post, that's exactly what I was thinking as I watched Krampus. I thought Pontypool was pretty fucking neat. I don't normally like zombie movies, but this is easily one of the most creative horror movies I've seen. The virus travels through spoken word instead of bite
>>

Well it DID put a new spin on found footage, the build-up was good but the payoff was really week. It waisted it's own potential.
I don't even remember the jumpscare at the end.

I'm going to save you Jews some money today. Don't bother going to see Krampus, Krampus: The Reckoning, or The Visit. These 3 movies recently came out, and the trailers didn't look too bad. So naturally, I went to go see them. Turns out, they're all fucking "comedy horror" movies. Absolute shit.

But, as for good movies, my favorite is still The Blaire Witch Project. Great movie.
>>
>>17115999
Wait, I take that back.
You CAN go watch those 3 movies, if you want to see something really cringe worthy. They all reminded me of Troll 2, if anybody has seen that shit.
>>
I really liked The taking of Deborah Logan (or something like that).
Mostly because it showed a elderly woman being possessed, which was cool and creepy, since they make it look like dementia at first.

>>
>>17115999
Krampus was good though.

> the canon of 2000s horror:

The Ring
28 days later.
V/H/S/
Babadook.
The Orphanage.
It Follows (not really scary but a good film).
Paranormal Activity (the buildup is really slow but that helps the ultimate payoff).
Dawn Of The Dead.
Teeth.
The Human Centipede (not really a good film, but an iconic one with a very disturbing concept that will haunt you for days).
Kill List.

> Not canon but pretty entertaining.

The Others.
Sinister.
Insidious.
The Last Exorcism.
The Hills Have Eyes.
Hostel.

You mean how it has a kind of upbeat, feel-good vibe to it with innocent child protagonists and positive messages about standing up to bullies and racists and what not?
I didn't really like that because it felt like it completely undermined all the potential horror. Maybe it's a good film but it barely seems like horror to me.

Although, I only saw about half of it. Maybe it changes when it returns to the adult's perspective, I don't know.

Great way of putting it. It's just holy fuck the way everything was thought out and the lack of gimmicky jumpscare made it all the more promising.
>>
>>17108260

>best jumpscares

The two best jump scares were the hallway from Exorcist 3 and the lawn mower from Sinister.

Pretty sure that was the point. It's meant to look like literal found footage from cheap or good quality cameras.

Saw krampus the other day, it was defiantly something I'd suggest. It is rated pg13 but I found it more enjoyable than several r rated movies. It's really an eye opener on how shitty we are as a society.its also depressing towards the end. I'd rewatch it on did when it comes out

Who the fuck blends their food at their desk. That implies he also cut up the food at the desk.
And, oh wow, the girl who is in the laundry room COINCIDENTALLY dies from the bleach that was sitting in the background the entire time.

I think each method of killing was fucking rubbed obnoxiously in your face, but honestly I didn't commit the movie to memory. Good idea, shit execution, 4/10.

Event Horizon should be in the top rankings even if it's largely sci-fi.

Anyone see The Den? It's like Unfriended but instead of a ghost or entity there's actually people behind it. Also instead of Skype it's more like Chatroulette. It's pretty intense and suspenseful for an indie movie that probably didn't have a huge budget

this

I really wanted to enjoy the film - but it didn't work for me... not believable acting / behavior

I wish it didn't attempt the found footage format - straight drama might have been more helpful for suspension of disbelief

I've only seen the original, however (no opinion on the remake)

The entire premise was "tell me who did it or I kill a random person" wasn't it? Seems like, by rule of drama, you'd end up with 2 living people, one of whom is the person whodunit, and a bunch of dead kids who didn't do anything.
>>
>>17130671

it's good as long as you like the girl - they invariably end up crawling all over you during that movie... it really gets under girls' skin - touches a part of their brain that guys don't have/understand

>>
>>17130846
The first one is alright--definitely a bit overrated, but I do understand why /x/ likes it so much. That being said, the second one requires a complete suspension of disbelief for you to watch it. The main characters are so f-n stupid that they deserve to die. They literally cause all of their own suffering.
>>
>>17130561
primewire.ag dude
>>
>>17124819
Yeah. Sinister ended the way it needed to imo but I still felt kind of unsatisfied. It was weird. Still fairly spooky until they move. Hawke carried the shit out of that movie, that's probably why the second one was so shit

>>

>>
>>17130699
No, the premise was each of the characters was guilty of something horrible, and all were connected somehow to Laura's death. So it wasn't just one person. Laura's ghost already knew all of it. She was just punishing each of them.

Although I don't remember what the fat stoner kid's connection to Laura was though besides some passing comments.

But even besides all that, who doesn't like seeing snobby rich teenagers get offed in elaborate gruesome ways?
>>
>>17130838
Babadook was brillian as a psychological and emotional story. It was awful as a horror.

I'd argue the horror element was unnecessary and felt rather forced. It would've been much better without it.
>>
>>17108260

I think it fell apart when they show the demon. He just looked like a 14 year old in a Slipknot tribute band, and it kind of ruined the atmosphere and was hard to take him seriously as a threat.

Sinister was kind of like Babadook in that the supernatural horror element felt unnecessary. The snuff film stuff was so fucking unnerving that it should've been the focal point of the movie. But then it takes a left turn with some mouthless Jim Root looking faggot trying to be spooky out of nowhere.

I liked Funny Games (the original, not the remake), it is one of the few movies to actually make me *hate* the villains. Also, Only Lovers Left Alive is pretty good and has a nice overall feel.
>>
>>17132036
I'm not the one that recommended that movie but I just saw it like 2 months ago or sumthing like that, pretty good movie. basically about a race of aboriginals that seem to be paranormal
>>
>>17131937
Having it as some kind of cult who worshipped the demon thing would have worked so much better.
Or even just keeping the supernatural element, but never really revealing the demon. Or at least giving it a better design.
