In theory there could be an entire industry for faking your death.You could pay someone to transfer you to another country where you could live as an illegal immigrant.They could also pay off your mortician.

A closed casket funeral and a dead lookalike would m ake the situation easier.

I imagine that it's less prevalent theses days sines we are all required to give a lot of information to our governments. That being said, modern slavery accounts for a lot of missing people that are presumed dead, but clearly aren't (though these people obviously didn't choose to 'fake their death'

it depends on how fast you want to be legally considered dead. if you go missing for long enough and under the right circumstances you can be declared dead without any body being found. if you needed immediate "death" then you would probably need to have a dead body that was degraded enough to be unidentifiable, but found in circumstances that would lead them to believe it was you.

Take a pint of blood every month for 5 months and store it.

Crash your car late one night and pour the blood all over. if they can confirm its your blood and more than like 3-4 pints they assume you are dead because you cant survive that blood loss.
