You misread/I mistyped, I didn't invest three years into them. I'm saying that I met them recently, but the feeling they're evoking from me is one I haven't felt in three years. I usually keep rune spreads simple, though I'm familiar with more abstract and complicated ones-- the runes are so primal that it's more difficult to get specific reads on them than it is with tarot.
I usually lay them, from right to left. The first represents the current state, the second represents a challenge to overcome, and the third represents how to overcome it.

I combine runes with tarot all the time. It works to great ends, from my experience. I'll be putting out a spread document sometime soon with details thrown in, but, to be short-- it is totally okay, and works wonders. I use them as modifiers.
For instance, imagine a Golden Dawn tarot spread, with one rune over each of the five sets of three cards, to denote the tone of the entire set.
Try it sometime, it's nice. You seemed like you have a good grasp on the runes as is, just always keep studying.
