Look into Alan Watts. He was one of the first to travel to the east, learn, bring it back, and share. And he did a great job sharing too.

I suggest reading actual Zen texts. Best to start with are Bodhidharma, Mazu and Huangbo, because there are recorded sermons of them which aren't that hard to understand if you get used to the terminology.
Other Zen masters like Zhaozhou are also very interesting, but often there are only dialogues of them, no sermons, which can make them pretty hard to understand without prior knowledge.
