Based on natural formations, I thought east-west would be the most difficult tunnels to find "naturally" and maintain for massive stretches across state lines.
The thing I like about all those pictures of supposed tunnels is that they ignore South Dakota. The Black Hills have the 3rd and 6th longest caves in the world. There is a massive military installation up there (last time I drove through the Custer or Wind Cave parks, there was a huge training ground and military trucks everywhere and "Warning: Trespassing will get you killed" signs because they might be actively practicing with live munitions. It made me laugh, because I felt like if they were going to hide a real Stargate anywhere, that this is EXACTLY where they would hide it (shut up, I love the show). Massive caves, mountain size carvings, lakes, military fags everywhere, all sorts of shit. Going through Kansas is legit (limestone, limestone caves everywhere), but any of the Nebraska dots in the Sandhills would be fucked by the water table. I know they put missiles and missile silos all over the place here, but a legit underground structure or tunnel would be incredibly difficult.
