Just because the cause and effect isn't linear doesn't mean it's nonexistent though, it just eventually gets too complicated to account for all the variables. Economics is a good example.

phones store orientation info in .exif, so they can rotate image depending on how you hold the phone
4chan strips .exif before posting so images end up going which ever way 4chan feels like at the moment
FIX: open pic in M$Paint, save ( correctly oriented ) M$Paint does use .exif -- upload the M$Paint pix, they'll be oriented correctly

That is known to be true in quantum mechanics, in some sense.
Causality holds, but the nature of truth and determinism go. It is not the causality of every day life. In general relativity causality again holds in a certain, local sense, but there can be things like closed timelike curves on which events seem to repeat indefinitely (the technical details are more complex, but essentially time is circular in certain regions). It is possible that combining quantum mechanics with GR would remove these effects, but such a theory is unknown.
