I think I've got a great idea for the opening to an 8 or 16 bit (whatever those little Nintendo RPG games were) Art Bell RPG. Or a Hoagie one. Either way, imagine this scene:
It's dark in the desert. You see a little pixellated night sky with a moon and twinkling little pixel stars. Slowly, the camera pans down and you are looking over a small ridge overlooking a certain compound in a failed housing development in Pahrump, Nevada. There's two houses, a shop building, some radio antennas and other things. In the background is the dim silhouette of the mountains that surround the flats and dry lakes of the desert, laying dark and silent and waiting for the next morning to come.
On the shallow ridge that overlooks the "Art Bell Compound" is an old, rusted van or delivery truck with some decals noting it as belonging to a vendor for some sort of microwave Pizza Rolls. Next to it is an older gentleman, laying prone on the ground, with a sniper rifle; as an added Easter Egg, the rifle would just so happen to be the same model as the one "used to assassinate" John F Kennedy, an Italian Carcano Model 91/38. The rifleman, believing that this rifle has some sort of magic ability to strike its target irregardless of circumstances or obstacles downrange, sights up and pulls the trigger.

He's just opening that night's edition of Midnight in the Desert, and the text is scrolling by on the screen in the form of little bubbles above his sprite's head. He does his general opening and just as he says "...and welcome to Midnight in the Desert," the round fired from the Carcano crashes through the window. It ricochets around the room, wrecking all of his broadcasting electronics and popping the bulb on the lamp near his desk. Art dives for the floor, and a few ashes fall from his cigarette.
After the chaos is over, the only light in the room comes from the glow of the little pixellated cigarette. A speech bubble appears above Art's sprite.
"Shit, not again." (or something like that)
You then cut to the opening credits, with Giorgio Moroder's "Chase" pumping it's beat in the background, just like the opening to MITD.
