In the movie Groundhog Day, obviously there was some entity that kept him trapped in that day. Some sort of trickster, perhaps?
I'm thinking it was this guy, personally. Any theories?
What leads you to that conclusion? I would consider the groundhog also.
It's a movie about how you can change your entire life and personality in 1 day. It's saying we all have the power to change for the better. My perception was it was just "God" or whatever bolevalent deity you beleive in

Just something about his demeanor, selling health insurance also. I think really the main character never actually met this man, and he was only saying that to "reintroduce" himself. Every time he pushes him away the guy is very persistent, and doesn't seem to mind when he ultimately walks away.. Just has a big smile on his face the whole time.
Also the homeless man, but yeah the groundhog might be as well. Or it might have been no one in the actual city.

I think it might've actually been God trying to straighten out the main character, because as soon as he starts fulfilling everything good he possibly could in the day, and living the right way, talking kindly, his situation no longer existed. I like to think that God took him and put him in a situation he hated so that the man could recognize he was better than he'd been living. Most people agree that this is the movie's message.

It's got nothing to do with god or any entity whatsoever.
The plot is about Phil's ex girlfriend who wanted to teach him a lesson and put a curse on him , the spell ended when Phil became the man his ex wanted him to be. That part of the plot wasn't part of the final cut because the director thought it was unnecessary to the narration but the info is real easy to find on google.
