Anything you got.

Well, I read this one sociological theory about how being "touched by the Wendigo" would turn you into a cannibal and how that was a socially acceptable excuse for cannibalism in famine times, like the Donner party. It took the blame/social stigma off of you if you had to resort to cannibalism to avoid starvation.
Thanks.
>>17009246
it's popular nowadays, isn't it? Cannibalism in a woods/mountains make you a wendigo. Fast, strong and can imitate voices. Fire is super effective. It's boring, can we make stories about another monster now?
Yeah go ahead.

Since you said anything, I suggest reading "The Windigo", it's an old book (80s, or so, I think, because I was into 80s thriller/horror/mystery in middle school.) It's a pretty good read, and was actually my introduction to Windigos.

Thank you sir.
>>17009322
>Fire is super effective.
Fairly sure Until Dawn made that up.
>>17009368
How is that connected to Windigos? It was more likely a stalker/unstable person that found out where the editor lived and wanted to creep them out.
>>17009382
Not original to Untl Dawn but yes 100% BS. Source: I'm a northern canadian.

Wrong thread, my bad guys
>>17009246
nope
I don't know why but something about The Legend of The Windigo is just fascinating.
>>17009397
this
Are Wendigo's only North American thing? Like indian curse or such?
>>17009499
They're believed to be in the woods of eastern Canada and northern United States. Mostly around the Dakotas and the Great Lakes.
>>17009507
i'm in poland right now. Here in woods are demons like leshy or mamun.
>>17009499
And yes its a curse that comes to you when you eat other human beings. This is usually caused by Windingo-psychosis. This is like a more extreme cabin fever.
>>17009526
I guess other cultures have similar stories.
>>17009507
natives in the Territories believe in them as well as the cree and other western tribes believe in them not just an eastern thing
>>17009526
Could you elaborate?
>>17009610
Sure anon.
Leshy is lord of a forest, demon. He often show himself as a tall, very pale man or as animal(wolf/bear). Neutral for people, sometimes he show you the way out of the forest or make wild animals feed on you. In poland people believe in leshy even in late XIX.

they enjoy eskimo kisses

Mamuns are souls of a dead pregnant women. She haunted pregnats ladies, kidnap infants or switch them. If child was born retarded Slavic blame mamun. They look like old hairy women or half woman half animal creature. You could protect your child with red ribbon on child's arm. Red ribbon could be seen on children strollers.
>>17009647
forgot to add " ...strollers even today"
>>17009499
They're a North American thing and yeah the creature/legend/etc belongs to the Indigenous people along eastern Canada and the US. You're not "supposed" to discuss the creature during the winter time as it makes you more susceptible to encountering it or finding yourself in a situation where its curse can take over you.
I literally just made this so go ahead and laugh.

The Wendigo is a classic story by Algernon Blackwood that popularized the legend. Here it is: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/10897

It was also mentioned in a season 1 episode of Supernatural, think they ended up killing one with a flare gun.
