How so? I mean it justifies a lot of the dumb shit especially if you read into it a bit more and connect some dots. It would explain why the "aliens" lack any apparent technology or didn't take any extra effort in their "invasion", if you could call it that and makes the religious elements fit a bit more. Plus there's a double meaning with the title with that in mind - "signs" being more in a religious sense as a sign of faith rather than, alien signs.

IDK, I just hate that "everything happens for a reason~" shit and it was a bad movie either way you interpret it. I also don't like religious movies that try to disguise themselves as horror movies like "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", which, granted, was still better than Signs. The actual Exorcist movie I have no problem with, on the other hand, because it doesn't try to disguise what it's about or push a certain viewpoint too hard, even though it's specifically about men of God vs a demon/satanic entity.

Signs wasn't about the world being invaded by ayy lmaos, it's about the return of demons to Earth.
The super shitty ending where the little girl's water happens to kill the aliums makes more sense if the girl is actually an angel, as confirmed when the priest called her holy; and the space spoops are actually demons, which parallels can be drawn from looking at their behavior. The half-full glasses of water are actually holy water, since they were blessed by the daughter; and that's how they could cause such damage to the demons when they attempted to invade the house.

Well there's no indication that the aliens came as part of a military campaign or a scientific investigation, given the fact that: (a) the aliens dick around and don't really do anything (b) the total lack of equipment or technology other than their ships
I always imagined the movie as if some alien average joes just unluckily ended up on our planet. Maybe they were refugees or something.
Now there are plenty of substances that are hazardous to humans. Take HF. It's a colorless liquid that diffuses right through your skin and reacts with the calcium in your bones and melts them away. Now before Breaking Bad I doubt nobody who hasn't spent time in a clean room would know about that shit. So I think it's easy to imagine that water was just as strange and uncommon a substance to these average Joe aliens perhaps.
