That's not true, however the description is still technically correct. This message was left on the answering machine of a woman who had been raped by the man speaking -- at the time he was a serial rapist who had not yet killed according to the most widely accepted timeline of the case.
After committing around 50 rapes in the Sacramento/Northern California area from 1976-1979, he moved south and killed 9 people from 79 to 81, and after an apparent 5 year hiatus killed a final person in 1986. While it was suspected that the Northern California "East Area Rapist" and the Southern California "Original Night Stalker" were the same person, this was not confirmed until DNA evidence linked the crimes in 2001.
However, the person to whom the DNA belongs has never been identified, nor are there any major suspects as seen in some other cold cases.
