Deathwatch (2002) - really creepy atmosphere
Martyrs - kinda freaky cause it could happen
VHS 1+2 - 3 sucked balls
Event Horizon - Dimensions and shit
Antichrist - well, kinda strange name for the content
Insidious 1+2 - really liked that the SFX were done with little cgi
Uzmaki - asian suspense with a teaspoon of gore
Don't Look Now - from '73 but it's really creepy

>Gotta say that I liked OPs movie cause it had a rather claustrophobic atmosphere. Sure there are better ones, but it was a solid 6/10 for me.

No offense, but I'm on my way to my 30s and when I was junger (like 10 or 11) it scared me shitless. Even when I watched it later again it still gave me goose bumps. There are just some things about older Horror/Suspense movies you young ones don't get cause you grew up with superior cgi and overkill gore scenes.
>>
Curtains is a pretty good one, it's a little older and some parts are a little dated, but an interesting take on slashers.
Babadook, not gory but pretty suspenseful and has a good atmosphere and some creepy as hell moments.
Would you Rather? more of a indie movie, not a lot of gore, or suspense, but some interesting psychological dimensions and hey Jeffery Combs is in it.
If you don't mind a little comedy with your horror, Re-Animator is one of my favorite movies, it deviates a lot from the Lovecraft story but is still a good watch and a lot of the effects still look pretty good.

This

It seems that the kids these days don't appreciate, or are scared by this anymore. I think that it had to do with the shitty attention spans of this ADHD generation. Coupled with crippled empathy, brought on by the narcissism of social media, I don't think they get scared without the formulaic bs...
>scary ghost kids who look like their in Halloween costumes
>obligatory back turned, spin them around, spooky face
>gay jump scares that only work on dimwits who don't notice the score telegraphing it
>the cgi, super fast face shake/warp
>still pg 13

For a good example, check out the trailer for the new, unnecessary, Poltergeist reboot.

I don't know about everyone else, but I hate a lot of gore scenes. I think they're annoying and generally not scary. I think it's better if the demise of character is either left to the imagination of the character, or done with a tasteful amount of gore.

Are you referring to The Descent by Jeff Long?
Because despite having the same title and similar concept the movie wasn't intetionally based on it its a coincidence.

If anyone is interested the book was pretty good at least i thought so as a high schooler in 1999.
Its about the modern world discovering a huge massively extensive network of caves stretching all over the world with a whole subterranean Eco system including horned subterranean hominids who are the the sources of all mythology about hell and demons. It gets pretty dark considering its basically an adventure book with some pretty /x/ relevant occourances and side stories.
>>
Anybody here seen Rigor Mortis?
I saw it on ntflix thought it was pretty good giant haunted Chinese tenement where everyone is going through the long dark night of the soul janky as fuck Chinese ghost and vampire mythology pretty good special effects.

Yep. Pretty much this. Gore for the sake of gore is boring and bit old hat. Horror films that rely on it solely, are fucking amateur. But on the other hand i guess gross-out/gore films are their own niche these days.

For me, gore is only effective when it's matched or exceeded by the amount of empathy i feel for the characters/situation/plot etc..

Yeah nah i agree it was a pretty shit movie. I was mucking around with my SSRI meds around the time i watched it, perhaps that could be a factor. I finished watching it and came to the conclusion that yes it was analytically and empirically a bad film. At the same time it made me feel sick and disturbed. I think this is because in the beginning i thought i was watching some dumb-fuck degrassi high shit and thus acclimated myself to that point. When the 'images' came up on the screen i pretty much shat myself.

But yes, i do agree, bad movie.
>>

Ah yeah i can kinda understand that SSRI-bro. Fuck it feels good to finally be off those numbing things after a whole year.

Pretty much the most disturbing movie I've seen, it's really well made, and scary in a quite unique way.

We like to believe we're better than those savage animals out in the wilderness, but deep down we all know it's a lie. One upside to our society structure is it promotes conformity and good behavior (okay, at least somewhat moral goodness I guess). Keeps most in their place out of fear of being ostracized. There are some who truly do not care. Those are the people we need to watch out for. They're good at hiding though. Humans are fucking terrifying, man.

Yeah definitely man. I've watched it with girlfriends that aren't into horror at all and even they loved it - it's just so beautifully shot. They kind of fucked that charm up royally with Let Me In.

I enjoyed it. Found-footage, but appropriately chilling.
>>
>>15784031
Let me in didn't capture that intimacy between Oskar and Eli had. It went more for oh I like this blood thirsty monster with a conscience as opposed to a dark, almost adult relationship between two people in a seriously fucked up situation that keeps getting worse.

Jesus Christ, this pandering garbage was awful. There were no characters in this movie, just a couple of mouths to rant on the writers behalf and a dozen or so drooling morons for the sake of winning arguments with himself. The entire film was nothing more than a soapbox for petulant angst.

It's also not relevant to the thread.

The "original" IS a remake

The "remake" is a prequel

What? being a prequel doesn't make it the original, I was referring to which movie was made first, it's like saying that the original star wars the phantom menace, you meanie.
