Amigara Fault. Yeah, I know the translation is kind of silly, but it touches on a few of my phobias in a big way.
Fuan no Tane made me afraid of the dark.
I hadn't been afraid of the dark ever since I was a kid. Like, since I was 12 or so. But then at 25, I read Fuan no Tane and that went to shit.
At 29, I'm still afraid of the dark. Or, not absolute darkness, I like absolute darkness. Fuan no Tane made me afraid of twilight.

Started reading this. The stories are too short and end too abruptly for it to be scary to me. They just seem really cut off and there's very little suspense or buildup to the "creepy" moments.

Dude, Fuan no Tane is 3 volumes long, and Fuan no Tane+ is 4 volumes out of which about 3 are translated.
7 volumes isn't short.
As for a good, long horror story... Ibitsu (the one by Ryou Haruto) is pretty fucking spoopy, but it's not supernatural, as far as I recall. Though maybe it is, I read it years ago.
But yeah, it's 13 chapters long (according to MU) and spoopy as hell.

The idea is that they're supposed to be childhood memories or strange urban happenings or even regional urban legends. The name basically means Seeds of Anxiety. You're supposed to start looking at shadows differently or being more paranoid if you read it enough.
I'm assuming the effect is lost on the average /x/phile because we're kind of already wired that way.

It may be because I've had a stalker before, but Zashiki Onna and Ibitsu really freaked me out.
As someone who's read nearly all of Junji Ito's works I can easily say the ones who got to me the most were Back Alley, The Window Next Door, Unbearable Maze, Devil's Logic, and most of Mimi's Ghost Stories.
I could go on about horror manga, but I'll leave it at that since I can't recall any other titles I've read that really got to me.

There's nothing to confirm, it's written clearly right in the manga, these are stories the author heard when he was a kid, pretty much like local legends. The last story with the spooky zombie kid in the swimming pool was witnessed by the author himself.

I Am A Hero can get pretty creepy at times. It takes something unoriginal and overdone like (spoilers(until the end of vol 1)) the zombie apocalypse and put a fresh spin on it. Plus it's a great read in general.
