Let's see if I can post this without the dumb filter thinking it's a repost.

We're still finishing work on our e-book. Our goal is to try to finish it by Halloween. In case you missed the last several threads, check the archives. I have to mess with the links due to the stupid site thinking this thread is a duplicate. All you have to do is change the post number as needed.

http://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/15148265

14827007
14833388
14894608
14953748
15047450

The previous submissions threads:

http://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/14827007
http://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/14859097

The new google doc link will be posted when I figure out which one it is now, so I don't put the wrong one in the main post again.

We've had a few new drawfags recently, but we could always use more. Check the last thread for stories that need art and I'll repost the pics we currently have once the old thread dies. Not all of the stories need art and there are a few that are better off without, but we'd like to get 1/4 to 1/2 of them done. OP pic is cover art.

If anybody wants to submit some late entries, this is probably your last chance. The basic rules are no greentext and make it original. If you have a question, ask here before posting.
>>
I THINK this is the current google doc but I could be wrong, so correct me if I am.

tl;dr we are making an e-book with original 2spooky content. Read the archived threads for more.

I got a story I just posted recently in a thread, it's pretty long so is it alright if I post it in parts?
>>
>>15247248
Were you the one who posted that last story in thread 6? If so, you might have to wait for it to die first before the site will let you repost it.
>>
>>15247269
No I never heard of this and I never posted this story until about an hour ago. I just want to get involved, help where I can and share my experience.

Try screencapping it and posting it here, then.

And one for some story about a swamp or something.
>>
>>15247304
It started to sound like a typical skinwalker/tulpa story at first, but then it didn't quite go the way they usually do, so I'd say you can submit this if you clean it up and write it in proper format. Not bad.

Thanks for the new art!
>>
>>15247305
Double-checking this, there might already be art for that story, but maybe we could include it as a second pic. In the future, maybe if there's duplicate art for stories, we'll let the author choose the one they like best or try to incorporate both pics somehow.
>>
>>15247305

thanks! they look good.

is the second one for the penspike bubble? or uhh.... the one abot the wooded area no ones allowed to go in?

i cant recall any others that gave off a swampy vibe.

regardless, looking forward to future contributions!
>>
>>15247368
there is, i was going to suggest:

1. double-art stories have a pre-image and an after-image.

2. we could just include one of them in a bonus alternative art gallery in the back of the book.

obviously we dont want to waste resources on double submissions but if it happens by mistake it'd be pointless not to incorporate the art somewhere.
>>
>>15247391
Good idea, we'll go with that.
>>
>>15247350
Alright, will just drop it here then. Will change names for reasons.

My name is Adam. Back when I was 19, I had just gotten engaged to my girlfriend of 2 years, Mars. She was always a stay at home athlete and liked to play your general video games. I always like to camp, hike and plink with my trusty 10\22, and figured going camping would be a great way to celebrate our getting engaged finally. After some egging on she reluctantly agreed, so without hesitation, we packed up neccessesities; Food, batteries, liquor, lots of liquor. And ammo for our guns. We brought about 3 10\22 rifles for all of us to plink with when we got bored, and we brought Mars' AR15 she'd been decking out. Once we were finished packing up whatever we needed, we met up with my best friend Jake and his sister Janet. Jake and Janet were really chilled out all the time, philosophical stereotypical stoner types. Absolutely amazing people though. We also met up with another guy from work, Ben. He was a quiet loner, but always tagged along when we would go hiking since he liked the being away from work.

We set off in Jake's truck and drove for a few hours after we got breakfast, it was a perfect morning, clear skies, perfect temperature, absolutely optimal for camping. We set off at about 11 o'clock and got about 3\4th the way to Jake's perfect spot when suddenly his truck ran out of gas. He said he'd fill it up before we got to his place when I had talked to him on the phone earlier, I looked at him and asked what the deal was, he just looked at me an said; "Sorry dude, guess I forgot." Annoyed, we decided to trek it since we went all this way and were too far out to start walking back, we'd figure something out when we left later on.

1/?
>>
>>15247434
We walked for about 2 hours almost, give or take, but finally we reached the clearing we'd been searching for, Jake, being excited to finally be here light up a bud almost the second we stepped into the clearing. I set up the fire since it was going to get dark in a few hours, while Mars and Janet made awkward conversation setting up the tents, Ben sat to the side listening to his iPod, he never said much but he was always a nice person so we kept him around.

After we had everything in place, we began the drinking and roasting marshmallows on the fire, enjoying the outdoors like any kids should. It was about 5PM and still just an optimal day, we discussed what we'd do tomorrow morning, how we disliked our bosses and so on. After some excessive drinking and partying in general, we all called it a night around 10PM. We all crawled into our tents, except for Ben who was just sitting out there doodling on his notepad.

Mars and I had been asleep for what I would say is an hour or so when I was awoken by a loud yelping sound, kind of like when someone stubs their toe really hard. I peek my head out the tent and see Ben standing there looking startled. He looks at me and simply says "Oh, sorry for waking you Adam." I was a bit annoyed but shrugged it off and went back to sleep. About 30 minutes later I hear the same yelp. I get up because I'm beyond irritated at this point and stomp outside my tent looking for Ben.

I see that he's in his tent, sound asleep. I get a bit confused but sigh and turn back to go back to sleep. While entering my tent I suddenly hear heavy breathing and twigs snapping from the nearby wooded area. I don't know why but I froze with a level of cold fear I hadn't felt before in my life, followed with inexplicable dread.

2/?
Hope this is coming out alright.
>>
>>15247464
I stood there for what felt like a good solid hour simply staring into the dark tent when Mars wakes up and asks me what's wrong. I simply gesture to her "Shh." as I reach for her AR-15, load it and rack it. I stepped out of the tent and looked around, still full of fear and liquid courage. Suddenly a loud crackle like sound from the other end of the woods. I jerked my body towards it and accidently discharged a round into the brush, waking everyone else up. Everyone asked what the hell I was doing, and I just replied "Oh, I saw a deer... Sorry everyone." before crawling back into my tent and finally getting to sleep.

Morning comes slow but sure, everyone is groggy and visibly irritated at me about my incident the other night. We make some chili for breakfast, go hiking and plink a bit, and everyone forgets about last night. Except I still felt that dread linger in me. I can't explain it but, it just lingered. I figured I was just being scared of my own shadow and finally loosened up around the afternoon. Nothing eventful happened after all of that, then night fell once again.

It was a cold night, so we built a massive fire to keep us toasty and rolled some logs up to it so we didn't sit on the grass. Ben, as usual stayed within eyeshot but away from us. I notice he's starting to draw more frantically than normal, but I ignore it since he's always been the strange one. We spent most of the evening talking about whatever came to mind, boasting, the usual. Mars was feeling drained from the hike, which is unusual since shes very much in shape. She just rests her head on my shoulder and doses off while I talk to Jake and Janet.

3/?
>>
>>15247502
While we were talking, a sudden, beyond loud sound of a tree falling with incredible force swept through our camp. We all jump up in a panic and look at each other. We all heard it, and it was rather close. Before we could say another word, another tree. This one was very close, and loud. Before we could react to it, like a plague, that same fear and dread from the other night came rushing back with a vengeance. Everyone felt it and we all panicked. We all began feeling violently ill and weak, but with the adrenaline pumping through us, we grabbed our rifles and made a formation. Nobody is staying calm, everyone is shaking, Janet and Jake are in tears because of how scared they are, I couldn't even hold a rifle properly.

And then we heard it, a blood curdling scream. And then another, and another. Me and Ben kept an eye out while everyone grabbed what was important to them and we ran as fast as our legs could down the steep hill we came up. Janet trips and badly injures her foot. I'll never know what got into that boy but Ben runs to her, hoists her up on his shoulders and runs ahead of us with her on his back.

We keep running but the screams follow close to us no matter how fast we go. We finally reach the truck, forgetting it was empty, jump in and try starting it. The screams got closer, trees began falling again. We made the only choice we had, and that was to leg it on foot. Ben and Janet run ahead of us, how Janet ran with a severely injured foot I will never know. She out ran Mars, me, Jake and even Ben.

We run until the screams stopped, and ran some more. We finally stopped to catch our breath.

4/?
>>
>>15247530
We rested for about 5 or 10 minutes not even talking, just getting as much air as we can and making sure our rifles are loaded. In the midst I look up and see a naked man staring at us. I freeze, and not thinking yell out to him. "Hey! Are you lost?!" That's when Mars chimes in and says "Adam! We need to leave now." I look at her in confusion and she says "Dude, look at his head!" This is when I realized his head was a triangular shape, nothing I've ever seen on a human before.

Then that yelp. Then what I could only guess was hundreds more one after the other. I feel an amount of adrenaline I couldn't begin to explain, we all felt it, and legged it as fast as we could, clumsily jumping over branches, rocks, you name it. I had made it ahead of the group with them close behind when I looked back, before I could turn my head back I trip and my head makes contact with concrete. We'd made it to the highway. We stop running but make good pace walking back down where we came from, we eventually arrived at a gas station and dosed off outside since it was closed.

Later that morning, we hitched a ride with an elderly couple who were going our way. Ben had dropped his notepad in his rush to grab Janet, and while we were on our way home, I went to give it to him, but he was asleep, and I didn't want to wake him. I decided to flip through his drawings. Kid has talent to say the least. I noticed he drew some things and dated them. I looked at them, and dated from the night before, were trees falling, and then a legion of triangle headed men standing in the exact stance I saw the one.

5/5

Hope it turned out well, I suck at writing.

whats the foreword
>>
>>15272856
Haven't decided yet, still very much open for ideas, anybody got any?
>>
>>15272872
I don't know but I'm suddenly reminded of the foreword from the original Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Book, the one where it tells of child about to be told a scary story, before authorities bust in and arrest the person who was speaking, and leaving the story open-ended. It asked of the reader, "how would you have finished the story?"

Maybe something like that.
>>
>>15272924
Haven't ever read that but it certaintly sounds like an interesting concept, of course we'd have to put some sort of spin on it so its unique to our book
>>
>>15272943
I wouldn't suggest mimicking it directly, but the general sentiment of it.

I guess just a basic set up of what the authors think makes a true /x-worthy story, or what scares them. Or maybe an account of a moment in our lives when we truly felt scared.
>>
>>15272994
I like this idea, but that would be too many people writing for one foreword. Maybe it should just be a general summary of /x/ and something about its history or more popular creepy stories?
>>
>>15274786
Yeah, i like this, maybe introduce /x/, (make it sound far more glamorous and mysterious then it is) then maybe mention a few things like shadow people, skinwalkers etc (just touch on them) maybe mention how there could be one in there room right now, right behind them... To get them in the mood, then go from there?

Two comedic stories to another e-zine who wants me to keep writing more in continuation

A horror/fantasy story written on contract and published on a website dedicated to fairy tales and the like.

There was also another horror story that was published on an e-zine which then went belly-up. And I've ghostwritten a bunch of stuff for Amazon sellers.

It's not my main job, but I wouldn't call it a hobby, either, since writing is something that's always been with me, and I do it not for fun, but to get better every day. I have several novel ideas, and I have an outlined one on the back-burner, along with a short story collection I want to publish traditionally. Lately, however, my energies outside of my dayjob are spent working on short film scripts for some friends in the industry, chipping at my short story ideas, and doing the ghostwriting thing (I actually have an alias with which I'm going to publish some e-books in the same manner my clients do. Might as well cut out the middleman).

So yeah, it is more "work" than a hobby, haha.

What happened to this thread guys, i've been watching from afar and was originally impressed with what you were doing, but now you guys have just kind of slumped. Kick it up a gear, i want to read this thing! This will be the most awesome thing /x/ has done for a while, dont give up!

otherwise Op is making money by simply compiling everybody elses hard work.

This thread is empty as hell, time for another contribution. I get self-conscious with poetry, but you guys might like it. Give feedback, please.

Did you ever think
on a warm summer's night
on the soft cool grass
under pale moonlight
that someday everything you know
will fade away like melting snow?

Did you ever dream
in a cold dark room
that you slept in the depths
of your future tomb
and even though the sky was blue
that no sun would shine down on you?

Did you ever wake
with a chill of fright
and quickly reach out
to turn on the light
for even though no one was there
you felt warm breath against your hair?

And now I will say
There's no need to fear
I am always with you
I am always here
You didn't want to be alone
so now why do you cry and moan?

Did you ever hope
that I'd go away?
You tell me to leave
but I think I'll stay
You said that you needed a friend
I'll be with you til your world's end

How does something like this work anyway? I'm a filmmaker and have been planning to do short films based on creepypasta and nope stories from /x/, where the source of the stories would be made clear in the opening of each "episode".

As far as I know it's public domain once posted anonymously on here, so it's all cool right? Like making films out of urban legends.

I will definitely be making money out of this. Is this a problem?

Are you that same guy that keeps showing up saying he'll do this and never does?

>I will definitely be making money out of this. Is this a problem?

Yes. I will hunt you down and wear your skin. What's left of it. But I know that you're really too lazy to do it, even when you're stealing your material.

>>15310815
>oh and here's a picture for attention.

This is /x/, at least post something spooky. But preferably, fuck off with your shitty attitude.
>>
>>15310821
I'm not the same one who says they'll be doing this and doesn't.

I'm pretty sure only the speds would mind, /x/ is pretty chill. Besides, there is no laws stopping me. Sorry bro.

I may be too lazy, you might be right there. This is why most of us don't succeed in film.

And I'm an /x/ regular from way back, I'll just keep posting what i post man.
>>
>>15310840
>I'm pretty sure only the speds would mind, /x/ is pretty chill. Besides, there is no laws stopping me. Sorry bro.

I don't give a fuck, we didn't work this hard for you to waltz in and announce you want to steal our work. Did you really think you could do that with absolutely no repercussions? I've probably been here longer than you, but it doesn't matter, you're still acting like an asshole.
>>
>>15310798
Oh, yes. Please. Say you got the stories from 4chan. That's a great opener with the rabbi.
>>
>>15310852
>The content of your message is null because I disagree with your emotional disposition.
Hey, guess what--

The work posted on 4chan could not be claimed by a user unless the user produced undeniable proof (404) that they wrote the stories in question and created the ideas on which they are founded.

OP, could you please make money off of people's donated creativity? Because that really would fucking show them to put fiction on a fiction site. God fucking damn, I Mean Seriously.
>>
>>15310852
quit raging, you don't own any of /x/'s work.

I can do that quite easily.

>>15310867
I own what is mine and I'm not going to let some jackass profit off my work. I can't tell if you're trolls or just idiots, but even if there's no legal ground, I won't sit idly by. Now fuck off.
>>
>>15310866
even then, you post them on a public forum anonymously usually as purported truth and not works of fiction and expect that they will be copyright? lol.

>>15310869
I seriously doubt anyone would use something you posted anyway. In the event they do, you'll be fighting a long expensive legal battle uphill I think, and you'll look like a dick.

>>15310881
>You'll look like a dick
This is America. Get out.
>>

Get a load of this fag.
I don't think we need to worry though, i highly doubt your films would be good enough to make any real money, and you'll doubtless give up after a few tries. Even if you did make any sort of significant money, everyone whos posted here has written there own stuff, so you'd be wide open for lawsuits my friend. So, kindly fuck off
>>
You guys shouldn't worry about this dude saying he's going to steal your material. He's probably too much of a fuck up to even do that correctly.

What you should be worried about is the guy that's been stalking this thread, silently, who wants to steal your material.

You know that mother fucker is in here... somewhere.
>>

Thieves are everywhere, but it takes a special kind of stupid to announce it.
>>
>>15310749
nice, love sad "horror". thanks for your contribution!
>>
>>15310798
thats not how public domain works idiot. everything in this book is copyrighted by the mere act of the authors writing it.

if you want to make short films out of any of the stories posted here or anywhere else you better ask for permission first... dont expect it to be given without compensation though.

public domain generally only applies to works of either dead artists or people who specificly distribute it as "public domain", meaning owned by the public.

distributing it online anywhere doesnt relinquish an authors rights to their story.
>>
>>15310881
its clear you dont understand copyright at all, your explaination of it is laughable really.

but you know whats really funny? the fact that you'd want to steal someone elses work rather than be original just shows that you're not a real creator.

you'll never finish any project you attempt because you have no personal stake in any of them.
>>
>>15310798
>Public Domain

Lol, you think public domain means posted publicly? Tell me you're joking.
>>
Okay, guys, let's ignore the special needs child and start focusing on the book again. Anyone else think they can contribute another story or pic? If not, we should focus on cleaning up what we do have and getting it ready.

I feel we keep getting stuck at the editing stage, i think 3 people have said they'll edit and have just kinda faded away, we really need a good, committed editor. I'd do it myself but i've got both uni and a full time job.
>>
>>15312300
its a process. the previous two "editors" were more like curators of the googledoc. the most recent one probably is just busy

that said, if anyone else wants to step up and knows that they can do it and be commited to the project then go for it.

otherwise we just have to wait for the other editor to get back or at least officially state hes given up (which i doubt is the case).

When Everything Becomes False
or
The Room Where the Minotaur Sleeps
The old man wears his finest clothes as he walks up to the podium. His tired face is melted from the tug-of-war between the gravity of time and his aging bones. His bowtie is silk and neat, his cumber bund hugs his waist, the tails of his coat reach his back legs. The faintest glimmer of a smile appears as a shaky hand pushes his reading glasses onto his face.
The audience of nobody - a thousand shadows camouflaged by the dark island on which they and their addresser sit - look on without perspective, without the ability to sense movement or light.
The arms of the pale statue upon which the podium sits uphold the invisible laws with outstretched palms, it's fingers creating a shield to the audience so that they may not read it's grim statutes, and turning towards the old man the codes of law sit scrawled upon the lines and creases of the hand, cupped inwards so that only he may gaze upon them.
The sounds of the swamp herald the beginning of his speech; cicadas cry and screech against the mating calls of frogs against the grunts of the crocodiles against the silent rumble of the roiling, stagnant water.
"If you stand still, the mosquitos eat you alive," the old man begins.
>>
>>15325182
"We learned this from those we gave as sacrifice to the gaping maw of the jungles. Orders for insect repellent rolled in almost as fast as orders for munitions. A new lesson is spit out every time we begin a new rite, and the lesson is almost always as unexpected as the last. A practical application for what we learn comes first, but as we look further into it we can see a more symbolic meaning appear. As we taught men to stand still and save face, we should have understood to take the opposite route if we were to remain unconsidered as a threat. Sometimes, the lesson we must learn is the most obvious at the time. If you stand still, the mosquitos eat you alive.”
He scans his eyes across at the empty grass below.
“So we began moving. One bite is worrying, as you can contract a disease, however small the chances. But with more bites comes a bigger chance for sickness, and soon you will be covered in welts. To remain in the dark we had to avoid any glowing spots that could alert the public to where we were. And so we moved. And we kept moving. We shifted around parking lots and subways, and in congress we kept our heads down towards the prepared speeches and teleprompters. The beauty of our manifest lay within our reactions towards those who tried to follow our movements.
“In the boxing ring, people think the winner is the fighter who remains standing at the end of twelve rounds, when the actual winner is the promoter, who can watch from the stands and feels a victory tenfold of that which a winning prizefighter feels. To win in the boxing match of the world we created and lived in, the best counter to a right hook was to not be there at all, to keep the snoops and spooks punching at the air until they were too weak to stand.”
The old man brings his hand up to his wrinkled throat, briefly touching it out of habit or ritual, his eyes briefly staring into the past before his breath catches in his throat silently, and he continues.
>>
“Years ago, I stated that the human mind had the greatest and most frightening potential of any other being. We began looking at our models and graphs and started to worry. The attention of the public was locked on the wrong thing, but peer into the shadows long enough and your eyes adjust to the dark. As we studied more about what awakens the brain, we learned more about homogenization. We already knew about the tendency of setting aside petty difference when faced with a greater danger, and the tendency to settle into a state of petty difference when no danger is felt. What we didn’t know – where the danger came from – was our unawareness that even differences as large as culture and identity can be cast away when faced with a large enough perceived threat. The public was no longer distracted by the ineffectual and meaningless. And we panicked. In panic we made mistakes, and those mistakes led to their eyes adjusting to the dark.”
He pauses. The swamp goes dead, only breezes occasionally lazily blowing the branches of the trees provides relief to the silence.
>>
>>15325188
“We continued studying and experimenting despite our hopeless situation, as if scientists adrift and doomed in an alien world. We tested and tested and tested, spending nights looking for a way out. Irony always lies in plain sight, as we found out. Our salvation came through the very patterns we had recognized as the threat. If you push people too far, if you face them with too much death, or the threat of death, they abandon all principle towards each other. They leave behind all notions of identity, familiarity and culture, and instead cling to any living thing they can find, becoming like a sanctuary, but still without any repose. That’s when all those disasters came, back to back. Just in time for the public to begin looking for the truth in the shroud around them, the might of a false evil turned them into beasts of fear. The lesson we learned from that? Homogenization works best at extremes.
>>
>>15325192
“When our studies once again pointed towards the potential of the mind, we finally had a grasp of what to do. At last, playing it by ear had led us to finally breaking into stride. And we worked. And we moved. And we kept those mosquitos from landing on us.
“Our black waltz around perception turned into a halt. We checked the charts. We didn’t have to do the work anymore, the public was doing it for us. They broke down into groups of their own accord. So used to the intangible system we had built for them, people began operating on autopilot.
“People will point fingers, people will discover patterns, but the maze of information that has been created by the others who point fingers and discover patterns keep our enemies safely lost. If one finds what they think to be the room where the Minotaur sleeps, they claim victory, not knowing that the monster they see was created by another misguided searcher of truth. They have weaved a web of lies and deceit better than we ever could have dreamt of weaving. It’s to the point where we ourselves cannot determine the lies we tell, the lies they tell themselves, and the truth both of us look for.
>>
>>15325201
“And so that was it. Our goal of an entirely artificial perception of reality was realized. There is no even recognizing us anymore. No matter what a person does, no matter how they may try to subvert the plans of a malevolent controlling force, they are doomed to do exactly what will keep them benign, what we want them to do.
“Once again, as time has proven, the irony is lying in plain sight. The human mind, so eager to ascend to its’ potential, is in itself the obstacle preventing it from happening. And the lesson we learned from this final series of events? Even if the reasoning behind what we do has been lost to the annals of history, the apocalypse that cannot be seen will continue long after I die.”
The sounds of the swamp once again came back into hearing, a respectful applause to the old man. He looked down and laughed to himself, quietly and dryly. The drooping branches of the willows wave down by his podium in celebration as the glow of the fireflies swarming by their leaves escort the people who weren’t there back to the homes they didn’t have.
