Sup /wsr/

Stupid question incoming.

I toyed with the idea of going to a skylake build but I don't really want to spend the money to put together a whole new rig right now. My 770 and 4670k are actually still going really strong for me and I'm getting much better performance than I feel like I should be.

Only thing I don't have right now that I would like to do is get an SSD. I still have Win 7 on my regular HDD and I suppose it would only make sense to install Win 10 on the SSD so I don't have to go through the upgrade process later. I'm also going to get a new power supply along with it, because the one I have now that I got when I put the build together (my first build) is not modular and the SATA cable came a little frayed which wasn't an issue until now when I want to add an SSD.

So my question to you is, once the new power supply is in can I simply pull out the HDD, put the SSD into the existing machine, install win 10 on it, then change the boot order to the SSD so that I don't have to worry about any cloning software for my HDD?

I feel like this is an obvious yes but before I commit I wanted some input.

TLDR: Any problems if I install win 10 on a new SSD then put back in my win 7 HDD for mass storage?

Bumping with cars?

It'd be better to do a clone-and-upgrade, so's your NTFS user IDs are the same on both operating systems, and you don't have to take ownership of your own files.

UIDs are made up of a random prefix representing the windows install, and a regular suffix for the user. This means you can't change the UIDs the OS assigns without changing its prefix, which in turn means that if you do, you're going to have to go through all the OS files on disk and change their owner, or the OS won't be able to read itself.

It's just easier to clone the OS so the UIDs are the same in the first place.

Thanks I think this is the approach I'll take. I sort of forgot that cloning was an option and I can definitely whittle down my hdd to fit.

Gonna get either an 850 evo or an Intel drive.
