Help me find a good anime pls

I'm looking for an anime to watch with these specific things that I'm looking for:
1) outstanding character development
2) dark emotional themes
3) an adventure story, especially one involving a group of friends. If this includes fantasy, that's fine.
4) well crafted storylines, twists, turns, etc.
If anyone can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated!

it has pretty much everything you asked for (firt half isn't really dark tho).
