Requesting anime with a unique design. Can be totally untradirional like Kaiba, Tatami Galaxy or Kuuchuu Buranko or just strongly stylized like Casshern Sins, Mononoke or Kaguya.

I have seen Everything by Yuasa just to be clear.

That one is Josei right? But I guess Utena is one of my favorites, so these demographic categories don't mean much.
>>
>>8856
Indeed.

No one should really care about the demographic. If it's good, it's good.

Thanks a lot, I've seen the first four you mentioned. Saw all of Animator Expo, I can by Friday was really cool. My personal favorite was Kanón. Also liked Ogikubo-station, MeMeMe, Bubu & Bubulina, Robot on the Road, Carnage and Sex and Voiolence.

Honestly lots of them were good, only ones I didn't like were the trailer-ish ones. They just seemed like misuse of the format.

As for the shorts, I've seen some of those but most I haven't. I'll check them out then.

Wondering, have you seen any anime by Noburo Ofuji? You seem to be a fan of visually unique anime yourself so I think you should check out his work. You can find them on nyaa by typing his name (they'll be labeled as anonymous). Kujira and Yuurei Sen are beautiful. And they're from the 50s!

Seen Katanagari, will take not of Utakoi.

I mentioned I've seen it in the OP actually.

Nah, but I'll definitely check it out. Yeah, Kanón was definitely up there for me too and along with pretty much everything else you listed.

Since you liked Bubu & Bubulina, do you keep up with Studio Colorido at all? Hinata no Aoshigure's definitely worth a look. They've also done a few shorts too, that I've really enjoyed, though they're not quite as unique as Bubu & Bubulina. (They do a fair few commercials that are up on their Youtube channel too, which are great for what they are, but they're still held back by everything that comes with advertising.) Wouldn't be too surprised if you've already seen these though since they were fairly popular as far as shorts go.

Looks like you're deeper into this I than I am haha. I'd definitely like to brush up on some older series, but I've been more on comic/manga kick as of late.

Posting this rec chart too, in case you haven't seen it.

I do know it, though I totally forgot about it. I fealt some of the positions on there were weaker: catman, hotori and spirits of the past especially. But lots of them were good, and some are among my favorites (Angel's Egg and Tatami Galaxy, though I have seen those before).

As for the shorts, I have seen Fumiko's Confession. It was pretty funny so I'll check it out again now. The other two I think I haven't seen so I'll give them a look right now.

Also, do you have a MAL account? You seem like a cool and knowledgable guy.
>>

Nah, I don't have much of an internet presence unfortunately. I've got one of those hipster tumblr blogs where I reblog animation and nature stuff and a batoto account for following stuff, but that's about it.

Here's a throwaway email address to if you want either of those: [email protected]

So I went through all of the shorts you posted, turned out I only actually have seen two of them before so thank again. Three of them stuck out the most for me.
I really liked Kanamewo, more than the allegory I liked the direct plot or "actions". It had a cool take on the whole human and supernatural entity relationship trope. Honestly, I was pretty damn suprised by how it developed.
Airy Me just had spectacular animation, I actually rewatched it a second time so I could grasp the whole thing and catch the details.
Fake!fake! again because of the animation and I liked the whole art design itself. Turns out it's made by the same person that directed Punchline's ED. Totally forgot at first how it looked like so I checked it again and yeah, can't believe I forgot it:

The last one you posted freaked me out a bit, but I'll definitely check out the whole Digital Juice compilation.

I'd gladly check out your tumblr, even though I don't really use it. If you don't want to post it here, then I'll send you an e-mail.

How is this in general? It is true that the design stands out a bit but the premise and story seems to indicate that it's rather generic ecchi. Am I wrong?

Unrelatedly, the band are the newest additions to the Show By Rock game.
>>

Yeah, Kanamewo develops its story really well. I've always been partial to things that can tell a wordless story. The music fits so well too; I like how the tempo builds up in the middle, but slows down and fades at towards the end. The human/supernatural thing works really well. There's I like how the girl introduces her way of life to the tree spirit in a kinda understanded. The cigarette scene especially sticks out.

Airy Me animation has a ridiculous amount of effort put into the the animation. Hard to believe it was a senior thesis project. There's barely a moment where it stops moving. I've rewatched it a ton since there's so many details you only catch on later on. There's so many shots I like in it, but the first person perspective shots at towards the end and were the apple split are too good.

Yeah, their use of color and ability to integrate music and animation is killer. Great design sense too.

https://www.youtube.com/user/keidoumyaku/videos (their old channel)

The last one definitely has some creepy undertones to it, but I really dig the use of color and the animation in it. Figured since we're on 4chan and all, it'd be okay, but I understand why it'd freak someone out too.

(My tumblr account is hauche. Try the messaging system, but I'm sometimes slow when it comes to responding. Don't take it personally.)

(This post is way longer than I meant it to be haha.)

Have seen it but thanks. It was pretty fun.
>>10475
Yup, I love animation that is based on pure visual exposition as well.

I also checked out all of Digital Juice, honestly the one you sent might have been the least creepy actually. That early 2000s CGI really stood out nowadays (not that it will look great when mixed with 2d nowadays in most cases). Some of them were actually just trailers that came about in later 4C compilations.
>>10398
I can't say I was a fan of the music. That's kind of me problem even up to this day with anime, I like the art, animation and narratives but often dislike the music, especially ones in OPs and EDs that have lyrics.

Princess Tutu. You will like it if you liked Utena.
>>

Yup, I liked both, though Utena more. But Tutu was still great.
>>
Does this count? It's a unique look for current anime, but pretty generic for the 90's.
