Aloha /wsr/

I have recently been assigned a wxwidgets project on my (C++) coding class, but we are expected to learn the widgets on our own.
We are required to do a painting app, one where we manually draw the shapes with the mouse, and we are only given a template to work off of.
I have read tutorial after tutorial, but I can't find much on manually drawing shapes. Lines are easy, and we have the template for those anyway, but ellipses, rectangles, and especially triangles (which I have been stuck on all day, rip) are killing me.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Using Visual Studio 2013, as that is the template form we were given.
wx3.0.2 is what we were given.

Here is a video our professor sent us on how it is supposed to work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWBrNYJqx3Y
