Dual Monitors Problems

Recieved 2 monitors for christmas and one has not been working. Not sure of problem but figure it might be my graphics card or motherboard as both work interchangeably. Looking for a bit of insight.

I purchased an adapter to change one from DVI to VGA (as thats what my monitors have) and its that one i have problems with

Only the top port (DVI-I) will work with DVI to VGA as the other port is DVI-D which doesn't support analogue signal. You'll have to get HDMI to VGA or Displayport to VGA for the other monitor.

If neither of those monitors work in the DVI-to-VGA port when connected on their own, the DVI port is probably DVI-D, and has no analogue signals for the adapter to adapt.
