anyone have any tips on getting into IRC? it looks pretty interesting and i wanted to know more before i dive in.

It's just a chat program. But most people idle.
The only time I use it is for interviews.

Search rooms by number of users in it. There's usually like 2 or 3 rooms on a server with people talking. I'm usually on efnet and there's like at least 5 rooms that are busy at any given moment.

Some sites still host them for their users
Many generals from /vg/ use it for a more anonymous approach compared to other IMing programs

People use it to share files; that's the only thing I've ever used it for. Haven't done that for a couple years though.
