Alright /r/, I want to start up my own server for an old game that was shut down years ago, I still have the all the old files for it and everything.
So my request is, how do I go about doing this? Any help would be appreciated.

you mean like an actual server where people run the game on their PC and they connect to your computer like steam and shit?

Ya basically and I know, wasn't paying attention so ignore the /r/.
Official servers were shutdown, but I have been wanting to play it again for like the past year so now I finally decided I would make my own server or private server. Whatever you want to call it.
Most likely from the ground up so ye. It's going to be a shit ton of work. I would imagine, but that doesn't matter. I just want to know how since I can only assume you don't make servers the same fucking way for every game. If you do though, then I'll know now.
I just want to learn, any help is appreciated.

I was going to just let this thread die without saying anything mean, but you keep bumping and bumping it.
The way you go about this is you learn enough that you don't have to ask the question "how do I go about this?".
In MM games in general, a significant fraction of the game lives on the server, and no-one outside the company ever gets to see it. You're wanting to replace the entire server-side of the game, starting from scratch. This means what you're asking amounts to
