Hey, /wsr/, can anyone give me any recommendations of movies that are similar to things like Lost in Translation, Her and Birdman? Similar emotions/atmosphere, so like melancholy, kind of ethereal and dreamy... does anyone get what I mean? I really enjoy this kind of movie.
I just saw Her and LiT really recently actually, so I'm in the same boat.
It's a Chinese film, but I've heard good things about In the Mood for Love, which was a huge inspiration for Lost in Translation. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has a similar feel, although it's a bit too mindfucky for me. Maybe try Garden State.
Personally, I haven't really found anything quite as good as Her or LiT.. They're just so unique. The only other movie that captures the melancholy feeling for me is Cast Away.

Somewhere by Sophia Coppola is just like LiT. But, based in LA. I really like it. Check that out for sure!
Ruby Sparks (2012) should be a match. Kind of similar to Her.
Castaway on the moon

not necessarily as similar as you may want, but Adventureland, Moonrise Kingdom, and Requiem for a Dream might be in your tastes.

Also I'd add the movie concluding the anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, that is The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.
But you gotta watch the series first... The series got some nice episodes with an atmosphere that fits your will, though.
Honestly, Pixar's "Inside Out" has a lot of that feeling.
Spring Breakers.
About Schmidt, even though it's a little darker maybe. Jack Nicholson was amazing in it.
Here ya go bud. Enjoy
Check out an anime series called Mushishi.

If that description doesn't sway you, then watch the short that the movie was based on.
