I have $500 and want to build a new computer. I very rarely play video games. What does /g/ think about this?

I have a spare HDD but I feel like an SSD will help a lot. I have a 15" LCD but I feel like at least a 1080p monitor would be nice. Would I be better off with some AMD APU or is this the best I can build for $500 with a monitor?

Why are you spending $500 just to spend it?

It's not worth spending $500 on a PC that's not a games machine or a workstation.

Spend $80 on cgi.ebay.com/262256393711 , stick your SSD in it, and spend the $185 you just saved on a nicer monitor.

As a bonus, you'll actually have a legit Windows license.

I already have a sandy bridge laptop. I just hate using laptops and want something more powerful.

To do what?

If you just hate the form-factor, Lenovo USB3 dock.

Two full-size screens, speakers, keyboard, mouse, three more USB3 ports, wired ethernet, and all you do is plug it into one of your laptop's USB3 ports.

If your laptop doesn't have said, you can get an expresscard adapter for $10.

what is even the point of this?

You leave it plugged in on your desk, and hook a keyboard, mouse, monitor(s), drive(s) to it.

Then when you get home with your laptop, you plug in one wire and your laptop is now a desktop.

You might have another one at work, so you can use the same computer at home, in the office, and on the plane.

I don't bring my laptop anywhere. I just leave everything plugged into it. I'm a 20 year old taking online classes from a community college
