No, Anon. Please remove your head from your arse. The story itself goes sour after the Monaco Arc. This is commonly acknowledged for a reason and has nothing to do with the puns that are present since the beginning of the story.

The puns get longer and more involved as the series progresses. If you understand them, it gets funnier and funnier.
If you don't, it gets longer and more boring, because being told "this is X and that is Y and therefore X+Y together are funny" isn't actually funny.
