new pc build not powering on

I have everything from the power supply powered in correctly, tested power supply with a paper clip and the fan turned on. But when I plug it all in to the motherboard theres nothing. sadface emoji. what am I missing here?
check all your physical connections before you try and figure out if something is broken, it's fairly likely and the easiest possibility.

To me it looks like you plugged a VGA power cable to your mobo. Check if there's any other 4pin connector that has no other 4 pin connectors branching out of it.
This happened to me.
ok found a 6 pin with a 2 pin branched off, plugged it in in place of the VGA one. still nothing

The 6pin with a 4 pin branched off is definitely a VGA cable.
are your cable's labeled?

nope, no labels. and there are only two cables that will plug into the socket in question. hasn't powered on for either
