I've heard that the anime adaptation of Kafka's "A Country Doctor" is supposed to be good, but I haven't seen it yet.

Honestly horror animes are hard to come by. Another is kinda suspenseful. Kinda.
Higurashi has some horror elements in it but it goes downhill after the first series.

As for books, I found "The Book Thief" to be kinda creepy in a certain way.
Anything by Poe is macabre, but read some of his less popular stories, they're stranger than the famous ones.

Movies you've got the Shining, but that's suspense again. The ring, the grudge, hostel(s) are fucked up, and from what I've heard the silence of the lambs is good.

Sorry if that's not helpful, I'm not much of a horror expert.
