I just finished up Shimoneta and really really enjoyed it.
I'd never watched any anime before this, so I was kind of surprised, but I decided to take a chance on it after reading about it somewhere.
My question is, what are some similar animes you all would recommend?
I liked that it used dirty humor while still maintaining some self-awareness, along with the various unrequited love storylines. It also made some interesting points while being incredibly entertaining to watch.

You watched Shimoneta as your first anime? That's impressive man, most people have shounens as their first. Congrats on having good taste so early.
If you like the perverted jokes and humor, go with prison school or Seitokai Yakuindomo.
If you like unrequited love and a little bit of pervert, go with oreimo. Season 2 is nothing but unrequited loves.
Mild pervertedness with self awareness would be Kill la Kill but it's first and foremost an action anime.
Panty and Stocking is also a possibility given its retartedly high levels of crass and perversion.
All of those are solid shows in my opinion, 6-8 range scorewise.
