According to an article on cracked.com.
the word happy used to simply mean "fortunate" or "lucky"
During the middle ages a happy life was a life spent working.
The modern concept of happiness as "The feeling of playing with a puppy" and the expectation that you should be feeling that way all the time might not be correct.
If you have dreams or goals, pursue them.
If you find hobbies that make you happy, nurture them.
At the very least, try to minimize your personal misery.

literally just live for yourself, don't have any consideration for others- but don't be an asshole to anyone. Obsess over money and it will come to you. Don't worry about being a burden to anyone and only care for yourself essentially only do things that make you happy, emphasis on you.
'living a happy life' is impossible, you can only occasionally be satisfied and/or joyous

I think you can have a better less stressing stance to life though, you'll not be sad as often then

Happiness is not a stance you can be at all times, it comes and goes just as anything else.
Just live your life and do the things you want to do.
Have you tried not caring anymore?
