Anyone know any websites or tricks for getting universally important news?
aka, NOT:
-x people dead from terrorist attack
-3 people dead from virus that will never affect you
-earthquake kills a bunch of poor people
-black people are scum
global news where the events actually have a reasonable chance of affecting me.

nah, just news that has more than astronomical odds of affecting me.
Like instead of:
7 black dudes gang bang some random white bitch
I'd prefer: holy fuck these dudes invaded these dudes
or
this economy/big company just tanked
In other words, news that hasn't succumb to being so desperate for viewers, they resort to shock and fear articles that are 99.99999% likely to have zero effect on their viewers.
News sites can't just report when there's major news. They have to make money, and that means reporting on any shit that comes up.
I get my news from a custom rss feed, and that works pretty well for me.
