Hey fellow anons, I need help buying a compatible hard drive/hybrid drive for my laptop that will last me 3-5 years. My laptop is the lenovo Y70 Touch, and the hard drive I'm looking at is this: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Gaming-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST4000DX001/dp/B00FQH7MQ2

Get a real SSD. To see what your computer supports I'm pretty sure you can download HWinfo and run it. Expand the drive(s) line and it should state your drive controller type for the selected drive.

Thing is, I really strapped for cash. I'm a college student and I only have $300
I really need space because I'm taking engineering classes, and my software is AutoCAD 2016. The host server is 512GB... Should I just get a 256GB inter SSD, and get a 4TB external HDD?

Yeah, I'm planning on getting a Hitachi 1TB 2.5" HDD for now, but I'll use it for a backup when my folks send me more money. Thanks for the help, /wsr/!
