apologies if this is the wrong section - point me somewhere more appropriate if there is one

i have a region 2 driver in my laptop, and i bought a region 4 dvd, hoping that VLC would allow me to play it (it didn't).

I had a google around, but apparently Matshita is a pain in the arse, and I have a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8D2Q. Does anyone know how I can make this IDEALLY region-free?

If you use one of the interposing drivers that cracks the encryption on the disk instead of asking the drive to decrypt it, the drive's region doesn't matter.

I remember using Slysoft's AnyDVD, back when DVDs were a thing.
