fun story: when i was in 5th grade (so this was in 2004 or something) i was way into yu-gi-oh. i got my dad to bring me to a pretty damn big tournament in amsterdam, it was open for everyone to enter so there were almost 3000 contenders. somehow i beat everyone quite neatly all the way to something like the last 50 or 32 or something, until i'm up against this kid with an exodia deck. the format was best of three by the way, and there were referees and everything so i'm sure that it was just bad luck on my part, but the first game he instantly drew exodia and the second game he had it after about 5 turns. i was pretty ok with it because that shit just happens sometimes, but my dad flipped the fuck out, because he didn't entirely understand what was going on. all he saw was his kid getting whooped in under 2 minutes for no apparent reason, and the referee being completely ok with it somehow. so he flipped over the fucking table, and the other kid's deck was scattered everywhere around the tournament area. i had taken my deck off the table already luckily. so anyway, this kid's valuable cards are literally all over the place, and random cheeky little kids picked up his cards without him seeing. he was bawling his eyes out, understandably, and i would have been allowed to advance to the next round (since the other kid didn't have a complete deck anymore, lmao) if it weren't for the fact that my dad was quickly taken outside by security. my dad did take me to mc donalds afterwards. that was a good day

So, Daigo's almost dead. If you block supers in the game, you still take damage, so he can't block the super at all.
So he has to parry it, which requires him to have split second timing for every single attack, missing by even a little bit costs him the game.
And then he managed to do it in some pretty dramatic situations, so it ended up that much more amazing.
In the first example, he'd learned to time it by listening to the sound of the game, for example, but as soon as the crowd started up he couldn't hear anymore, but still pulled it off.

To parry a move in Street Fighter 3 you have to press a direction on the control stick at the right time when your opponent hits. Normally Chun-Li's kicks are really fast, but when it's parried they are slowed down. Diago had to hit a direction for each of her attacks, jump and parry the last attack and follow it with one of his own super moves.

Evo moments #37 was a spectacular Street Fighter play where a fighter was down to a pixel of health. His opponent chose to try an finish with a special attack (sorry Street Fighter fans), which was guaranteed to do damage unless each and every kick was parried. To execute a parry, the control stick must be tapped forward at the _exact frame_ the attack would hit. The fighter with 1 pixel of health left managed to pull off the parry on all 15 of his opponents kicks then make a quick comeback to win the match.
