No, that's what they said about VR the first time around. And yes, it was as immersive as it is now, just shittier graphics.

High def will not make up for the fact that the average person will *not* keep coming back to VR once the short lived novelty wears off. See the first 3 times 3D movies took off then bombed spectacularly in the 50's, 80's and '10s.

Difference between the Vive and the Oculus, OP?

Is the Vive your favorite VR headset so far? Any others come close?

I can't help but feel that it breaks immersion when you see you're hand clipping through geometry.

True, and nice attention to detail, but I have to admit how neat it does look. I mean it does look like a beta, although it still looks decent. To be fair.

The Wii succeeded as well as kinect and other augmented reality devices. People will blow their money on this shit too. In 10 years they will have MLG (which is a fucking joke anyway) VR event.

Look at all the money weeaboos throw towards manga and loli pillows/toys. You better goddamn believe they'll drop 800 bucks if it promises they can't fuck their 2d wifu in virtual reality.

I think we're gonna reach a really crazy point where graphics are so realistic (we aren't so far away) and then we're interacting with something in such a way that it feels very real (beginning to happen now with VR and peripherals) that some problems are going to arise. You won't be able to play an FPS because it looks and feels like you're actually ending another human being's life. Some people will do better at disassociating themselves with if of course but I think some people could actually mess themselves up, maybe induce PTSD or something. In fact, if someone wanted to we probably already have the tech to achieve this on a small scale. I want to play a demo where you're just in a small room with another extremely life like person. They're tied up, you're raise your arm irl and you see a gun pointed at this person's head. They look extremely panicked are are beginning to cry. You notice every breath at 90fps, you can see the glistening wet trail down their cheeks that the tears have left. You notice their pupils dilate as you cock the gun. Could you actually pull the trigger and "win" the game?
Just the fact that most people would probably at least pause and seriously consider this is amazing.
>>
>>974888
That idea sounds absolutely fascinating.

>You won't be able to play an FPS because it looks and feels like you're actually ending another human being's life.
That seems to be happening already, to some extent. Photorealism doesn't even seem to be that important. I've seen a bunch of talks by devs who called VR an "empathy amplifier", and anecdotally, I've read posts from a guy who got freaked out when he saw someone commit suicide in Hover Junkers and another one who got intensely uncomfortable when murdering an NPC in modded GTA V.
>>
>>974989
Oh, what's also interesting is that when the Oculus people made the shrink guns for the Toybox demo, they started with generic pistol models and had to change them into cartoony rayguns because having a gun pointed at them made people uncomfortable.
>>
>>974989
Yeah, I agree. Games have at least been trying for some time to make us feel things like that, and there are plenty that have done the "Do I let this character live or die?" I actually spent five or so minutes at the end of Watch_Dogs listening to a character and deciding if I would actually kill him or not (in the end I couldn't let him live).

>>974991
If you point anything gun shaped in a gun like fashion at my dad's hunting dogs they will cower and try to move away (obviously you don't do that intentionally).
>>
>>974989
GTA4 even now has great physics, look at how the guy gets forced back and just slumps over, and then how that guy crumples after being shot running away.
>>
>>975003
Yeah, good animations are probably an important part of it. That .webm actually is from the VR mod I mentioned.
>>
>>975012
Yeah, fluid and realistic movement plays a large role. That's why its important these headsets can do 90FPS.

So will the Vive and the Occulus rift be compatible with each others software. Are VR compatible programs compatible with both systems or are they separate.

Will the Occulus rift have a hand controls like the vive or are they a separate thing too?

I really want to use a VR headset with a flight sim but i'm afraid of being an early adopter and finding out my hardware will soon be useless.

Now obviously I don't feel anything in any game I play. We'll get desensitized with this new shit no problem.
>>
>>977917

You're retarded.
>>
>>974550

I think people will avoid games were failing their arms and walking around is a big part of the game play. They'll be a niche genre on that platform. There will be some interesting early experiments and maybe a few outlier titles later on.

The really big genres will be the ones where you can sit down and mostly focus on controlling with your mouse, gamepad or keyboard. So we're talking first person vehicle games like racing games, jet fighter games, that sort of thing.

The head tracker add an completely natural input method for FOV control. You simply turn your head and look in the direction you want to look at. Compare that with current games where you have to use an analog stick or the mouse to control your vision. I mean how many people people would be able to drive a car if driving a car meant you could only move your head and eyes by fiddling around shit stuck to the steering wheel rather than just turning your head around or moving your eyes.
>>
>>979457
I hate women like this. They say eyes are the windows to the soul and you can see the true vermin inside her.
>>
>>1006380
Then again, maybe you're trying to judge an entire person from a few seconds of video here, in which she doesn't even do anything. Maybe it turns out that she's actually an avid supporter of VR, and the video was a joke. Maybe you have no idea what you're talking about.
