it goes back about 2 decades to 2chan. They used to post a text-bear-face as a meme that eventually was adopted by 4chan and other chans as "pedobear." After that meme got stale, the Finns made an incredibly crude drawing of pedobear a meme which became "spurdo sparde," spawning shit like the "ids habbening" meme and the american bear /int/ used a lot. anyway, this meme has limped along continuously until someone on i think ylilauta created a few images of a comically simplified spurdo with only legs and called it 'gondola.' The first wave of images was mainly gondola being subtly and carefully pasted into beautiful scenery and works of art. This thread is the result of a few people setting these images to music, and the format taking off.

Have you ever tried to record rain or water sounds? It's damn difficult. Just putting a microphone out in the rain doesn't do it. On that video, I used a combination of a small water fountain and shaped noise to make it sound richer. To be fair, you can't hear much of it due to the sound compression.
