it does kinda make sense though. the prequels were more about the traditional Jedi order which taught the saber techniques almost like a dance. but in the original trilogy there are no more jedi left to teach the saber forms and Vader is to Mr Roboto to be able to use them any more

Here you go. The part where he picks himself off the mat is a different scene though, happens a round earlier.

I don't care who it is, all I ask is that if someone wants to post a pretty long fight scene (like the ~6min one in >>935168 ) that they cut it up into four 1:30 long webms instead of eight 30-second ones, etc.
Last thread some guy posted fucking 20 webms from Gorgeous, and they were all reposts anyway. Not that I don't love Jackie Chan! But you're killing the thread when you do that.

This is not a long take, there's several cuts. Like after he shoots at 0:08 and when the guy passes at 0:11. Just like in birdman
>>
>>935161
You are right about that, in many star wars games you learn that almost all jedi forms (if i recall corectly) are formed around a dance
>>
>>936163
It all looks the same to the viewer. Long takes/scenes that give the illusion of long takes make for some of the best action/fight scenes you can find (see >>935701 and >>935709 for other examples). Especially if there is a lot of good, moving-camerawork. They are like the "cure" to the shaky-cam bullshit that everyone hates seeing so much.

However, using cuts is pretty much necessary if you want to realistically convey a character fighting with extreme/superhuman strength, though, or who is practicing extremely hard fight-choreography. That shit almost always looks fake as hell if you try and do long takes with it.

>>936108
>>936150
Nice opinions. It doesn't take an expert critic to discern a good fight scene from a bad one; any pleb can tell. Meaning you can't say a fight looks bad with any kind of authority unless there are actually a sizable portion of your fellow audience members who agree with you.
Otherwise, you're just spamming "my opinion is objectively better than your opinion!!" shit, based pretty much entirely on your own biases and predispositions towards liking only certain types of fight-scenes (and movies.)

>>936108

I'm sorry, you seem to be confused. I can say whatever the fuck I want without regard for anyone else's opinion. It is my subjective opinion that those fight scenes look ridiculous. They're choreographed like a Broadway musical. Every movement is comically exaggerated, and everything is entirely too orderly for a melee. The camera work is fucking terrible. The sudden focal length changes and rapid cuts crossing the action line make it disorienting, but not in a good way. The disorganized camera work contrasts with choreography to make the whole thing just look silly. And what's with all the cartoonish jiggling in place of camera shake? Especially the second one looks like it was filmed through a block of jello. I could go on...

I have no idea what movies these are from. Maybe they're supposed to evoke campy 60s TV action series. If that's the case, mission accomplished I guess. But it is my subjective opinion that no sensible person could categorize either as "epic fight scenes".

>>931932
More than the prop fighting one thing I always loved about Jackie's fight scenes is that he always got the fucking shit kicked out of him and he was pretty often not even he best fighter in his own movies. He would beat the shit out of people with things, gang up on someone with his friends, or outright cheat with whatever he could get his hands on. It just makes every fight scene so much better when the hero isn't effortlessly beating everyone, even if it's against base goons
>>
>>936367
It's a bit tiresome that the word "meme" has become a meme itself. If you don't have a substantive explanation for why you dislike something, you just call it a meme- whatever and other people are suddenly supposed to take your critique seriously, even if it makes no sense at all.

Sure, but you can't say it with any kind of authority. No one's going to care that you're railing on it if you're just the one person out of ten who doesn't like it (and for stupid reasons based on personal-preferences, too)

BTW, all the things you are complained about as flaws in that scene were intentional stylistic decisions made to match the tone of the film. Some movies just have cartoon-y like action scenes because that's their style. Shocking, I know. I mean why can't all fight scenes just be filmed in your favorite way? Why do other people have to like what you don't like?

Are you fucking retarded? Obviously they were intentional stylistic choices. That doesn't make them good. I mean seriously... I have to hand it to you, your statement is so blindingly stupid that I'm really at a loss for words.

And what is this shit about why can't other people like what I don't like? You're the one who attacked me about my opinion in the first place. I've given clear reasons why I think those scenes are terrible. All you've done is bitch about other people's opinions and declare yourself right because somebody somewhere (presumably?) agrees with you.

Since we're on the topic, it's interesting that you keep bringing up appeals to popularity in defense of your views. First, you might want to note that most of the opinions in this thread regarding those two clips have been in line with mine, so you're wrong by your own standard. Second, popularity is a terrible measure of quality. Most people have no taste, and with the exception of a handful of classics, extremely popular works tend to be mediocre and full of gimmicks.

Finally,

they were intentional stylistic choices that most people had no problem with, just you because you are a closed minded fool.

>"I'm really at a loss for words"
>followed by two paragraphs of salty opinions

Your "clear reasons" for why you don't like the scenes are, again, just your hating on stylistic choices that lots of other people do *not* hate. At least I can go out and say "The overwhelming majority of professional movie critics (and user reviewers) agreed that the fight scenes in Kingsman, Winter Soldier and Creed all looked great" but you can't even do that. All you can do is spout your edgy, biased opinions and act like they're fact.
Example: "Nobody likes cartoony fight scenes! NOBODY!"

Also I don't give a shit if replies in a 4chan thread are disagreeing with the OP. That literally happens every thread. If OP had started a thread complaining about how awful he thought the OP webm was, there'd be anons ITT defending it instead of ripping on it.

I don't know about how The protector did it, but John Wick had the same stunt, and here's how they pulled it off:

You shoot the guy getting thrown off the balcony onto a mat/pad. Then you put him in a harness a couple of feet off the ground, and then drop him (without a mat/pad). Splice the two shots together so they look like one, and then take the harness out in post.

I love how the directors of John Wick are just ex-stuntmen who had dreams of one day making their own movie, and how they finally could do it because making movies like this has just gotten so much cheaper with time. Stuntmen can produce some phenomenal action scenes if producers actually are willing to trust them with creative/directorial control.

I also hope The Stunt People ( guys who made these webms: >>931448 >>935286 ) will break out of obscurity soon.
It doesn't seem likely though. Their stunt work and choreography are awesome, especially for indie, but it seems like they need a new, more hardcore image to appeal to the masses. Which is kind of a shame because I really like the Jackie-Chan style action-comedy they have going now.

thank god none of that is canon anymore. How can anyone prefer a fight scene where the combatants look more like they want to dance with eachother than hurt eachother? It's just so terribly unrealistic.
What if Obi Wan just said "fuck this dancin shit bruh" and ran Anakin through while he was busy doing these stupid spins with his saber (or vice-versa, w/ Anakin killing Obi)? The fact that they knew eachother's fighting techniques so well meant that they should have kept the spinning to a minimum, because there's no way it would have ever provided any kind of advantage for either of them anyway. It would have only given the other fighter more opportunities to attack.
The thing that would've made sense for them to do would be for both of them to fight conservative as fuck (since each knew that the other knew all their tricks) and to try and kill the other while he recklessly does some dancing/spinning move.

tl;dr
fuck fighting that looks like dancing

I mean the videogame stuff where they explicitly say the lighsaber duels are supposed to be like dances; that is no longer canon. The prequels are still canon ofc.

And I realize it's fantasy, but I still expect any two characters engaged in a fight to act like they actually want to defeat eachother, first and foremost. In reality, you can either have a dance or you can have a fight; but never both

It's about consensus. When it comes to opinions, if 9 people in 10 think that X is good, then X is good, and that 1 person out of 10 who disagrees is objectively wrong - at least when trying to make any kind of absolute statements.

I.e., with regards to the Winter Soldier:

>"I think this is shit."
This is okay because it's your personal opinion.

>"This movie is shit."
This is not okay because it's phrased as though it's an objective fact, when in fact majority opinion is heavily against you.

Again, it's all about consensus.
>>
>>940991
>And I realize it's fantasy, but I still expect any two characters engaged in a fight to act like they actually want to defeat eachother, first and foremost. In reality, you can either have a dance or you can have a fight; but never both

You realize that every fight scene ever put to film is Flynning and, thereby, a dance, right? Since the actors probably don't want to actually kill each other.

The best example of this is probably the famous Dread Pirate Roberts VS Inigo Montoya fight from The Princess Bride, where obviously the actors are Flynning, but in-universe Roberts and Montoya are both Flynning as well, since neither have anything personal invested in their fight, both are masters of their craft, and both want to enjoy the fight while it lasts.
>>
>>941594
True, those are very good scenes, but you don't watch and hour and a half of badass action just for a handful of non-action scenes; they're icing on the cake, not the main attraction.

You just actually don't understand movies

A good movie can be made with the intent to not give a shit about non-action scenes. Just because the director isn't analyzing the emotional depth of all the characters to give you an opprotunity to stroke your own rock hard fucking ego doesn't mean it's bad.

In movies like these the action scenes are the main attraction and the dialogue scenes are the icing on the cake numbnuts.

It's more important for the action to be good and if the non actiony scenes are really good too then it's just a bonus. Not all movies with guns have to be Saving Private Ryan.

>>
>>940971
John is as fleshed out as he needs to be for the plot, your opinion is literally wrong.
>>
>>941725
How the fuck is Equilibrium's action scenes the main attraction? The movie is clearly about a much larger more involved plot which just flat out fails. The fight scenes just happen to be good, don't mistake that for them being the main purpose/attraction of the movie.

In John Wick the action scenes truly are the main attraction of the movie, not the non action scenes.

John Wick is essentially a movie that does fight scenes better than Equilibrium but it doesn't try to cram a retarded ass anti religion plot into it too. I don't understand why Equilibrium is better, it fails at what it tries to do but with the side affect of good fight scenes. John Wick succeeds at what it's doing but with the side affect of not focusing on non action sequence. We disagree because you seem to think that we should be judging John Wick on the part it's not focusing on.

Also you contradicted your earlier point.

What the fuck are you smoking? Equilibrium's an action movie. You watch it for the action. The plot "fails" because the plot was there to support kickass gunfights, and it serves that role well; bitching about the plot in Equilibrium is like bitching about the plot of a porn flick: you're focusing on the wrong goddamn thing.

And your dumb ass is fighting phantoms too. I never said anything bad about John Wick; I like that flick too. There is more that one Anonymous in this thread besides you bruh. I find both films entertaining action movies that I recommend to action movie fans. The entire point was that Equilibrium's non-action scenes, while very good, aren't enough to make the movie 'worth it' for people that aren't fans of action flicks; if you don't find an hour and a half of cinematic gunplay worth watching, the good non-action scenes aren't enough to make the entire film worth it. If you DO consider an hour and a half gun-blazing action entertaining like I do, though, those non-action scenes are a nice addition to an already enjoyable movie. That's all I was trying to fucking say when you jumped down my throat.

To clear things up for any other illiterate Anons in this thread: you don't watch an hour and a half of badass action (the main attraction) just for a handful of non-action scenes (the icing on the cake).

It's a result of them trying to show that Tom's character has become a super badass so he's literally flying around murdering shit like it's no thing. He's performed that exact sequence of events hundreds/thousands of times so it's just a result of practice.

>>941756

Equilibrium was literally designed around the director's idea for the kung fu gun movies. Everything else was just an excuse to make a movie you can use it in. He even confirms it in the DVD extras; he just thought it was a super cool looking thing that he wanted to put in a film.

First cut at 0:01.
second cut 0:10.
0:21 is third.
0:25 is fourth.
0:34 is fifth.

Cuts in fight scenes generally happen when the camera is obscured, it makes it easier to hide them and give it the appearance of a long uncut scene. regardless, this is an amazingly well shot fight.

Holy shit, the level of autism in this thread.

Back to /tv/ faggots.
>>
Hey guys, this is a little bit far fetched, but I'm gonna try anyway because it fits this thread.

There's an asian martial arts movie I'm looking for, seen it several years ago and don't recall the name.

One of the main characters is a wierd girl (it's not chocolate, but similar), can't entirely remember if she's autistic or something, she was trying to save someone (mother, maybe?). I watched an english voiced version, but there were some parts where it wasn't dubbed for some reason.

Some scenes I remember:
>Nighttime, open area, some place I think operates as an open market during the day
>She's attacked by a shitload of guys, many have melee weapons
>Defeating them one by one
>One scene includes them being between a truck and a wall I think
>They're on some island
>I think some sort of a boss was there, whose guardian was a skilled female
>Skilled female guardian killed a protagonist, jumped him/her from above

Yeah, that's basically as much as I can gather. I scoured the internet for top lists, tried checking a torrent site I ususally use, no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The beginning of this webm, before the first line of dialogue starts, is my favorite shot in the whole movie. It shows Luke backing up from the rain of blows coming from Vader, and it shows the difference in size between the two. Vader is huge, hulking even, and impossibly destructive. Luke, in contrast, is clearly outclassed and the smaller of the two. Vader literally physically bullies his way through the fight, and doesn't receive even a scratch until the climax of the fight. It's also worthwhile to note that Vader is toying with Luke. As we saw with his ability to manipulate the force and his fight with Kenobi, Vader could choke Luke to death, push him off ledges, or even just cut him to pieces at will, but chooses not to. It's foreshadowing to the event that comes later, when Vader reveals he's Luke's father. This whole fight literally looks like a teenage kid trying to beat up his dad.
